Campus Lunch Stuff Story by: Natalie Almond "Where do you want to go to lunch?" is the question on hundreds of high schoool students' minds every day. The fourth period frenzy begins and everyone is finding rides, figuring out where they want to go, and considering how much money they want to spend. While lunch is served on campus, most students chose to eat off campus because of the greater variety of foods available. With the lunch period being only thirty five minutes long, it can be a challenge to pick up a meal and return back to school on time. Becasue of this, fifth period is one of the most common classes that students lose credit in. Going off campus for lunch can be expensive, yet it depends. Lunch can range anywhere from two to ten dollars. Plus the cost of gas to and from your desired location is typicallly an additonal two dollars or so. Red Bluff High is one of the last remaining schools in the surrounding area that still allows its student body to go off campus during lunch. Because of this, it is a long awaited privledge that all sophomores, juniors, and seniors thoroughly enjoy. Eating lunch is essential to finishing out the school day strong. By mid-day, blood sugar has dropped significantly and the body's efficiency has decreased dramatically. In order to stay focused and avoid feeling sluggish, one must be sure to take in enough calories and protein. According to ChoiceUSA.net, eating lunch every day is essential for helping children succeed in school as well as growing and developing successfully and healthfully. Besides lunch being good for students' physical well being, It also gives students a much needed mental break. This allows students to feel less jittery and distracted. Whether staying on or venturing off campus, the one thing that all Red Bluff High students and staff can agree on is that lunch is a necessity. The Red Bluff Underground Although going to well-known food chains is rather convenient and popular to high school students, some choose to go to these discrete and often forgotten locations... Hot Dog Stand/Top Dog Maybe you aren't in the mood to drive far from school. If this is the case, the hot dog stand right in front of the post office is a perfect lunch option. Also, "Top Dog" is right off of main street and has many different types of hot dogs and serves popcorn as well! Home Depot Home Depot has a trailer in front of it that serves a variety of food and drinks such as Red Bull slushies, gourmet hotdogs, and sandwiches. Many people forget about Home Depot in their decision making process because, quite frankly, who immediately thinks of Home Depot when they are hungy? Taco Truck There are actually two taco trucks in Red Bluff that provide cheap, authentic Mexican food. They are often overlooked as lunch choices by many students, but have proven to be excellent choices. The taco trucks are in this "undergroud" section for a reason- see if you can find their hidden locations!
