The humorous comments here and there were nice little breaks in all the drama and tension with Lena and Ethan's situation. It wasn't over the top like some other magic and witch movies. The setting of the small southern town, Gatlin, worked as well and kind of gives an explanation for other characters' reactions to all the stuff that's going on. There wasn't really anything bad about this movie. If you're into movies with romance, humor, witches and magic, then this movie is definitely for you. "Beautiful Creatures" is a romantic fantasy movie about a boy named Ethan Wate, played by Alden Ehrenreich, who only dreams of leaving the small town of Gatlin, South Carolina. Ethan begins his first day of junior year and notices the new girl Lena Duchannes, played by Alice Englert, who resembles a girl he's been seeing in a reoccurring dream, in which he never sees her face, but realizes its Lena. You could say life was pretty good for Bethany, getting home schooled, surfing all day with her best friend. Until something tragic happens. While out in the ocean practicing, a shark attacks Bethany and she ends up loosing her arm. She barely made it alive to the hospital loosing nearly 2/3 of her blood. In an Instant her life changed completely. When she was recovered things were a lot different, she couldn't do a lot of things including surfing at first. But as she practiced she got back on the board and kept competing in competitions. She showed kids everywhere that you can still be great even if you have physical disabilities. The mood of this movie changes a lot throughout, from action packed surfing competitions, to depressing tragedies, to heart warming victories, this movie is a roller coaster full of emotions.
