Arts and Entertainment Page 5 March 8, 2013 'Jack the Giant Slayer' shows nothing new Savanah Rice Staff Writer The film "Jack the Giant Slayer", directed by Bryan Singer, is rated PG-13 because of the intense scenes of fantasy action violence, some disturbing images and language. This movie is about a ancient war between humans and giants that is reignited when Jack (Nicholas Hoult), a farmland boy, fighting for a kingdom and the heart of a princess (Eleanor Tomlinson), opens a gateway between two worlds by a magic bean. Nicholas Hoult fits the dirtpoor-I-need-to -believe -i nsomething act. Along with Jack the Giant Slayer, he has starred in Warm Bodies as "R". Nicholas Hoult plays as a poor farm boy named Jack, who lives with his uncle because he lost his father to the plague. Jack needed to sell his horse to make money. Along the way he met this guy that was on the run and needed the horse fast. That man gave Jack some beans, he said they were special. Jack accepted them as the man took off on the horse. He later then found out that those beans were very valuable and magical. When he got home his uncle found him with only 'beans' and not coins of what he was looking for. His uncle got mad and threw the beans. The beans scattered, as Jack was trying to pick up every last one of them, his uncle stormed off. One of the beans slipped threw the cracks of the floor. Because they are so poor, they don't have money to fix the leaks in the ceiling, so when it started raining rain leaked through, after that, that's when all hell broke loose. After the bean stock grew taller and taller, Jack needed to go on an adventure to save his love, Isabelle's kingdom and her heart. Jack the Giant Slayer is kind of like your typical princess fairytale story/action movie. Guy falls in love with the girl, the girl can't love him back of the Party', 'Crazy World' (the song that the CD was named after), 'Be Your Everything', 'Stuck in the Middle', 'Cheated', 'Shoot', 'Leaving California', 'Take Me Home', 'Red Cup, Hands Up, Long Brown Hair', and 'Hey You'. 'Be Your Everything' was the first single released to the public and is about a boy that loves a girl and wants to "be her everything". 'Stuck in the Middle' is a song that can make a person feel better when they're depressed. 'Cheated' is about someone whose boyfriend or girlfriend cheated on them and how they're "letting them go". 'The First Time' is about how you only grow up once and you can't take back what you do. 'Life of the Party' has got to be my least favorite song on the CD. It's about having fun while you're still young. It has a good message, but I don't really like the music for it. 'Crazy World' is about how hectic the world is and how everything just needs to slow down and be simple. 'Shoot' is about someone that's unhappy with their life and wants to start a new one. 'Leaving California' is about leaving and starting a new life. 'Take Me Home' is about someone that's lost in life and how they need someone to "take them home". 'Red Cup, Hands Up, Long Brown Hair' is about a boy that's in love with a girl despite her flaws. 'Hey You' is about how people say and do things with the reason simply being because they're in love with someone, whether they have a relationship with that person or not. The CD isn't terrible, but it's not fantastic either. My favorite song's on the CD are 'The First Time', 'Be Your Everything', 'Stuck in the Middle', 'Cheated', 'Leaving California', and 'Red Cup, Hands Up, Long Brown Hair'. I don't particularly love 'Life of the Party', 'Crazy World', 'Shoot', 'Take Me Home', or 'Hey You'. Don't get me wrong, I love the lyrics and the messages, but the music doesn't really fit my taste. Overall, it's a great CD, but I wouldn't buy the entire CD. I'd listen to the songs on YouTube first then buy the good ones. mystery with the story. Br ya n Singer i s wel l k n o w n with the work he has done with the X-Men. Singer did a good job with the animation and the plot but there was no mystery, the movie was very predictable. Although the mystery sucked, the actors did very well, this includes Eleanor Tomlinson who stars as Princess Isabelle. Tomlinson has starred in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and which she did a good job also. In Jack the Giant Slayer she plays as someone looking for an because she is Royal, boy saves the day, and boy gets the girl. You just know what t o expect. Bryan Singer did a good job with sound effects and special effects but could have worked better o n the adventure and to be outside of the castle. When Isabelle ran from home, she found a little farm house that was Jack's. She did amazing with her character, it really suited her as someone looking for more outside of the castle. Tomlinson and Hout did a fantastic job co-starring together. For me this movie was too predictable and didn't leave me on my toes. Although it was very intense in most scenes, had great special affects and made me want to get up and scream, I wish there was more to it then what there was. It's not worth going to the movies for twice, but it would be worth the one time seeing it. A rather generic production. 'Boys Like Girls' releases Kristen Simmons creates a pretty mediocre album a new world in 'Article 5' Sarah Bartlett Staff Writer After a year-long break from the music industry, the pop rock band Boys Like Girls released a new CD called 'Crazy World'. The CD introduces a more popish sound, contrasting the rock sound that their previous CDs, 'Boys Like Girls' and 'Love Drunk' presented. The departure of their bassist, Bryan Donahue, may contribute to their different sound. Sometime before November 19, 2011, Donahue had left the band because he had plans that disrupted the band's progress and was too preoccupied with his solo projects, 'Early Morning Blues' and 'The Tower and the Fool'. Their new permanent bassist is Morgan Dorr. The songs on 'Crazy World' consist of 'The First Time', 'Life www.amazon.com Not worth buying entire album. Zachary Smith Staff Writer Imagine a world where morals become laws, and when these laws are broken it could result in not just cruel treatment but death as well. This is the world of that Kristen Simmons created in the book, "Article 5". This book is a fantastic read for anyone who loves a fast paced story of survival, revenge and of course young love. This book takes place in United States of America, but in the future, where the President has created a highly "moral" country. They have what they call the statutes, which are like much stricter laws. For example, they have a statute against two unmarried people, even when a couple, cannot be left alone together. Also they have created a curfew. If any one breaks these statutes they are arrested by the FBR (Federal Bureau of Reformation) for repercussions. This intriguing and strict world is where we meet Ember Miller. She is a caring person who views herself as her mother's protected. She already had to save her mother from an abusive husband. I Ember follows the rules, for the most part. However, her and her mother own books that they aren't supposed to own as well as some pre-war magazines and other illegal items. Unfortunately, one fateful day the FBR, whom she calls the MM (Moral Militia), showed up at her door.
