He would have done anything for you if you would ask. He loved his community like he loved his "Lord," his wife, Christine and his family. He will be missed but he will also be remembered by the memories that are shared from those who knew him and I hope those memories are passed around to his loved ones and friends. Petersburg Senior Citizens meet Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the courthouse basement. No postcards this week! Ground Hog Day is Saturday and I hope he sees his shadow and we have six more weeks of winter because we need the winter cold to help out the hot summer. I'm not fond of the low temperatures and the ice that forms, but we need this weather and I remember how all of us kids growing up played and played outside and our parents telling us to come inside and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate. Last Friday morning Pike Co. schools were on a two hour delay because of the sleet which was heavier in the northern part of Pike Co. but it stayed around on the roads for most of the morning hours with slide offs by many of the school buses and cars around the Campbelltown and Pike Central area. Then on I-69 there were semis that slid off and one college school bus that had students on it and four were taken to Jasper Hospital but they were not seriously injured. As I am writing this column we are suppose to have sleet turning into rain in the morning, but it's close to noon and no weather as of yet and that's okay with me because I don't like to slide around. Some flowers are thinking it's last year as the Easter lilies are already up but no flowers yet and some of the rose bushes have buds. I hope this cold doesn't kill them off this early and they still bloom when they're supposed to. Pike Co. Leo club members are ready to take your order for Valentine Day's special at The Trading Post. Roses are $25 for a dozen (red), $20 a dozen for assorted colors of yellow, pink and white; carnations are $12, assorted colors. They also have a Mason jar vase for $2. You know it's always nice to see friends who have moved away and this week because of our friend who passed on, I saw Dorothy Nelson and Rusty, Wendell and Carolyn McGehee and Jonathan, then some who live here in Winslow but we don't see each other as often. Everybody looks great and doing well and I hope it's not this long again before I see them all. Laura's birthday was last Thursday and she turned 32 but the column said she turned 22. She said that wasn't a good year so I told her this second 22 years will be really great for the second time around and I believe it will be a great year. Since the weather is bad I hope you all have looked after your loved ones and friends to see that they are not too cold. They have everything they need to stay inside until it gets a little nicer outside. The lights are about to dim for this week so smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone you see or meet this week. Happy Groundhog Day!
