HOMES PLUS Lights continued from Page 1 TREE NEWS By Jesse Ziemienski Board Certified Master Arborist WI-0145B Did You Know? Trees bring beauty and practical benefits to modern society. They provide shade, beautify properties, strip pollutants from the air and much more. Kept healthy by specialty pesticides, fertilizing and mechanical controls, tress: Save Energy. One large tree has the same cooling effect as 15 room-size air conditioners. Mature trees shading homes cut energy costs by 18 percent to 50 percent. Increase Property Value. Trees can add up to 20 percent to the value of a home. However, without proper maintenance, the value of threes declines. Timely use of specialty pesticides controls disease and insect damage. Clean the Air. One acre of trees removes 5 tons of carbon dioxide from the air annually. According to the American Forestry Association, one average, mature tree absorbs 26 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. The same tree cleans up pollution created by a car driven 11,300 miles, as well as gives off enough oxygen for a family of four to breathe for a year. Submitted photo AMERICAN TREE EXPERTS, INC. Holiday lighting can distinguish your home and put everyone in a festive mood. 228426011 How does a customer determine which way to go with the design? Do they do the roofline, the bushes and trees, or both? Well sit down with the customer, find out what they like and dont like, learn about their favorite color, Hilborn said. He said its during these meetings with the customers hes able to ask a lot of questions and discuss their budget. The average job runs about $1,400, Hilborn said. Some customers prefer a roofline of lights, while others dont. We have some customers that want only their trees and bushes decorated, Hilborn explained. Tastes differ. Families with kids like the festive holiday feel, traditional red and green colors. Others want a more classic look with white lights. Hilborn said customers return for the services every year, sometimes making subtle changes to their designs. Every so often Hilborn said they take on a job that creates lasting memories: One year, we decorated a magnificent pine tree in the front yard because a soldier was coming home from Iraq. Family members came in from all over the country to participate in the experience. For a business, lighting can provide visibility, distinction. Ive read a study that said business that have Christmas lights draw more clients and they stay longer, Hilborn said. The season starts early and Hilborn said he focuses on the lighting aspect of his business for eight months of the year. There are some big-budget clients. Shopping malls in particular, as well as municipalities, he said. Business at Roof to Deck has proved to be somewhat resistant to the dour economy. When he started the company in 2007, Hilborn said business was amazing, right out of the blocks. We even won contractor of the year from our suppliers for moving the most product. In 2008, our sales did not drop, he recalled. Hilborn said he enjoys talking about his business, that it has a strong upside: When you hear stories, like the one about the veteran coming back, thats pretty fabulous. 3 262-542-0404 www.atetreecare.com New Listing! 777 Cheviot Drive Pewaukee - $575,000 Spacious & gracious 4BR/3BA, Trustway home.
