There were no postcards this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, Ind. 47598. The Patoka River in Winslow had gone down, but the rain we had last week has sent it up a bit, but still half full. The showers began last Saturday, July 21, and that lasted for two minutes. Then later on, heavier showers that lasted five minutes came our way. Sunday we also had showers that lasted one minute, but in the afternoon, heavier showers began and lasted into the evening. At one time, we were on the road and the windshield wipers had to work overtime. The temps have been great into the 80s and 60s at night with no humidity, and the wind made the days feel nice to be outside. It felt great to have the win- dows open for fresh air. Last Friday, July 20, my sister, Tere- sa, who I call Terri Ann, traveled to Mt. Vernon, Ill., where we met with 12 other stars from the old St. Louis area to eat and get caught up on what has gone on in our lives these past 40 years. We all have changed a little, but not that much, because we all recognized each other. George, Deby and Jacari brought Mom, Mildred and helper, Tammy Geralds, Tilda "Sis" Birton and her daughters, Brenda Bossung, Dot Ware, Johnny and Kathy Johnson, Mary Esther Gray and Don Houchins, Terri Ann and my- self. When we all left after a great day of memories, we have decided to get to- gether again before another 40 years and maybe more of our families can make it this time. Terri Ann and I also had a great time as we traveled the backroads on a beau- tiful day of no rain, just sunshine. The clouds began to appear more when we got closer to Indiana and into Pike County. Saturday, July 21, was the Winslow Riverside Flea Market where we had seven vendors. The Winslow Lions Club was serving breakfast and lunch. We had a good turnout of stars looking for that certain item, and there was also food for nourishment. The wind was blowing to help keep us comfortable, and the clouds showed a weak sign of rain, but it stayed away until the after- noon after we all left. The next flea mar- ket will be August 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also Saturday there were yard sales all over town, and the House of Mercy was handing out school supplies free to all who stopped by. They do this every year to help out our school children in our community. We heard about the pancake break- fast the family and friends were hold- ing at the Mt. Olive Bap- tist Church basement on Sunday, July 22 for Steve and Tammy English. I had chocolate chips on my pan- cakes, and it was really good. This is a favorite top- ping from one of the girls. Steve is doing fine with his knee, and it's amazing how the doctors can show their work. Tim and Jeanette have a cow named Captain Morgan who needed some ex - tra grazing room, so Norm and I, main- ly Norm, went over there to help with this project. I have a feeling he will kick up his heels to have a bigger area to enjoy. The Brownstown part of Winslow has had some excitement on 3rd Street. There was a hole that got filled in on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday on Main Street, just outside the town limits, was a water main break that left the water pressure at the house very low. We had heard on Facebook that night that the Brownstown area stars should boil their water for the next 48 hours. I got out a big pitcher and began boiling some water to drink and cook with. Al - so, the hydrants were flushed in our ar- ea of town. This was the first time I had to boil water for drinking, and it's not that bad if you have containers to use. I just couldn't see buying the water if I didn't have to. Maybe I should keep boiling water for drinking because of the chlorine. Ollie and Susie Doublement stopped by last week for a visit, and we hadn't talked in a while. They had been to the vet where their little dog needed an al- lergy shot. They are both doing well for now, and we wish them both well. Thanks for stopping by. On August 18, besides the Flea Mar- ket, the Winslow Nazarene Church, at the fellowship hall, will be having a clothing giveaway for children and adults. To learn more, contact Eddie Richardson. Have you all got the word out for the Doo Wop Lip Sync? There needs to be at least three people in each group. It will be on September 15 at the 13th Winslow Community Festival. Call 812-789 -2366 for more details and rules. This should be an enjoyable event. Guess what? It's time to dim the lights on this week's ramblings. I hope you all keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and enjoy your neck of the woods; always smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Oh, yes, did you all have fun at the Pike Co. 4-H Fair last week?
