ElEction rEsults locally and nationally D onald Trump was the Repub- lic candidate for the President of the United States race. On No- vember eighth, Trump beat Hillary Clinton, the Democrat candidate, by fifty- one points and ef- fectively won the presidential race. He is set to take office on January twentieth, 2017. Students at Red Bluff High School have differ- ing opinions on the election results. Those against Trump are scared for the minorities in America, especial- ly with the addition of Steve Bannon, a known white suprem- acist, to his cabinet. Johanna Wiltse, ju- nior, explained , "I am not against Trump yet, but I'm scared. As of now, I'm not for him at all because of his policies and views of the LGBT and col- ored communities." Prop 52- Extends existing fee on hospitals to fund coverage for Medi-Cal, uninsured patients, and children's health. Prop. 53- Requires statewide voter approval for bonds over $2 billion. Prop. 54- Stops the legislature from passing any bill unless it's published on the inter- net for 72 hours. Prop. 55- Extends income tax on earnings over $250,000 to fund schools and health- care. Prop. 56- Increases taxes on tobacco and e-cigarettes to increase funding for health care for low-income Californians. Prop. 57- Allows parole consideration for nonviolent felons and allows juvenile court judges to decide whether juveniles will be prosecuted as adults. Prop. 58- Allows schools to establish non English-only education programs. Prop. 59- Recommends California propose an amendment to overturn Citizens United decision, which removed some limits for corporate and union campaign spending. Prop. 60- Requires adult film performers to use condoms when filming, and other health regulations. Prop. 61- Prohibits California from buying prescription drugs at a higher price than paid by the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Prop. 62- Repeals the death penalty and replaces it with life imprisonment without pos- sibility of parole. Prop. 63- Requires background checks for purchasing ammunition and prohibits pos- session of large capacity magazines. Prop. 64- Legalizes marijuana for use by adults 21 and over. Prop. 65- Requires plastic bag fees be directed toward specified environmental projects. Prop. 66- Changes procedures governing state court challenges to death sentences. Prop. 67- Bans single-use plastic and paper bags. Propositions in California T hose in favor of Trump express how they be- lieve America needs a change from Democratic leadership. Tyler Parks, junior, is an active sup- porter of Trump. He expresses, "I'm very excited be- cause Amer- ica needs a change and he's the m a n who is going to do it. I'm ex- pecting him to improve our econ- omy and remove illegal immigrants from our country." Others haven't expressed much concern about the situation, positive- ly or negatively. Marshal Brose, junior, stated, "We'll just have to wait to see how he does as President before we judge him." Measure J got passed this election as well. This is a bond for about $26 million towards Red Bluff High School.
