The Red Bluff High School varsity volleyball Sophia Cumpton Topics Editor This year, Varsity football went to playoffs for the first time since the year of 2012. Corey Hein, head coach of Varsity football, was thrilled to hear that his 2016 Varsity football team was going to the playoff game. The playoff game was scheduled on Thursday the tenth against the opposing team, Shasta High School. They lost the first playoff game with the score 54-14. Also, both the Freshmen and JV teams had successful seasons, which should have a positive impact at the Varsity level next year. But, there were some coaches that were unavailable to the position this season so the changes at the Varsity level that happened were that RB hired, long time, Yreka High School teacher and Coach, Orlyn Culp. I would like to thank Coach Martinez for his dedication and service to our student-athletes. He had a positive impact on our athletes and we wish him the best of luck at Anderson High School." Why is teamwork important in football? Members must work together as one in order to win games. A single player's weaknesses are lessened when he is part of a good team. When players work well together as a group, they form a positive bond that improves team performance. By contrast, players who do not work well together tend to reduce the success of their team. No matter how great a single football player is, it is the efforts of the team as a whole that helps to win games. The greatest football teams d e m o n s t r a t e p h e n o m e n a l t e a m w o r k and win c h a m pio n s h i p s as a result of unified efforts. Coaches enjoy working with level-headed football players who are willing to "take one for the team." How do football players develop confidence? Confidence comes from many sources and it varies from person to person. Most players get confidence from one or more of the following: past success, experience, performing well in the immediate past, other persons, practice, and having a good support team. Athletes were asked to list the reasons to succeed- -sort of a self-help exercise. Many athletes don't give themselves enough credit for the successes and other skills that contribute to good play. Athletes sometimes overlook their own mini successes. That wraps up the Varsity football season; they ended it with a playoff game that shows since 2012 student athletes are getting back on top with school work and skill with their sport. Marshal Brose (11) "NFL, because I am undefeated in fantasy fotball." Mr. Kennedy (Teacher) "Football, I love a rainy day watching football with the fam. Go PACK GO!" Hayden Ellenberger (10) "Basketball, because I get buckets." Mrs. Kerr (Teacher) "Iceskating, because I pretend that I'm Kristr Yamguchi." Marissa Mills (12) "Baskeball, because I love Holiday Classic and the Dunk Contest." Varsity Tennis continues with their season as they continue to win each game. The Red Bluff High School Tennis team as of November seventeenth of 2016 has been u n d e f e a t e d with a clean record of 18-0. The team has been preparing for these games since the first day of school, and has kept up with practicing ever since to maintain their perfect record. The girls show a lot of talent, skill, accomplishment, and finesse. Tennis used to have ten members in total, but only the six varsity members were able to continue and compete. One of the key members of the team, Cleo Dufrain, junior, stated about how the season has gone so far, "Good because we're doing so good." The team has been extremely successful so far and has never lost a game. Another member of the team, Maggie Winning, junior, said referring to the end of the season, "Kind of relieved because basketball is getting going now and I can't play basketball and tennis." The team is sad that the season is ending, but also is happy that they can now prepare for other sports.
