Becca Frey Topics Editor Features Page 3 November 18, 2016 MHSA is a new club on campus started by Lexi Pritchard. MHSA stands for Mental Health Support and Awareness. It is open for anyone who is currently struggling, whether it be in school or because you're battling depression, anxiety, etc. This club is meant to be a safe haven for those who do not have one, and provide a safe place for people to share the burdens they have without judgement or anyone questioning them. MHSA's ideal is to take away the stigma placed upon mental illness; that every one with a mental illness is simply not insane, and that they are human, they are people. The opportunities given during meetings are things like watching inspirational videos, listening to guest speakers, and simply being MHSA supports all students with acceptance And here we are in the year 2016 where the Active 20-30 club of Red Bluff presents Red Annual Thanksgiving Turkey sport and creating a positive interpretation." The club meets every couple weeks. To be in the club, a membership for the CHSRA is Red Bluff High School has a new club on campus- the CHSRA (California High School Rodeo Association). There are nine districts in California, and the club is a part of district one. The club has about ten people in total on the Red Bluff campus, including their queen Ashtin Lopeman, junior, and their lead chairman Kayla Moore, senior. Mrs. Wagner is the adviser for the club. Lopeman said that the club focuses mainly on community service, such as visiting and making Halloween cards for the health center in town. They will also most likely do the same for Thanksgiving. The students in the club volunteer and help in the town rodeo, as well as compete in RBHS initiates new rodeo club As the Holiday season rolls around, Dutch Bros. Coffee is getting into the holiday spirit with their new Holiday cups! Holiday drinks include, Pumpkin Chai, Pumpkin Latte, Pumpkin Mocha, Peppermint Mocha, Peppermint White Mocha, Peppermint Hot Chocolate, and Peppermint Breve. Broistas, Noah Caylor and Colten Leonard agree that the new cups are a way to spread the holiday cheer. "I love Christmas and this gets me even more excited for it," explained Leonard. Although the cups do bring Holiday Cheer, many can agree that the cups came out way too soon. The cups were released a little after Halloween and customers agree that it was not time yet to get in the holiday spirit. "I definitely think that they should have released the cups after Thanksgiving because everyone starts thinking about Christmas after that," explained Senior Rylee Dufrain. The Dutch Bros Holiday cups are creative and the colors give it a better look, making them more festive. The cups started from a competition between Starbucks and Dutch Bros. Even though students have been active in high school rodeo in the past, this year is their first official year as a Red Bluff High School club! The club hopes to see more people join the club, and to make it to state this year. Bluff's very first annual Turkey Trot! The Turkey Trot is an event where a gathering of people meet on Thanksgiving Day at eight a.m. at the Red Bluff Soccer Fields at Park Avenue and Baker Road. Anyone, no matter the age, can join in on Red Bluff's annual 5k Fun Run race. This is also a family event "... provide a safe place for people to share the burdens they have without judgement or anyone questioning them." for people of all ages, so for the little ones or for the elder people who are wanting to get involved and get back into shape, there will be a 1 mile family fun walk as well at the event. The six mile run will be for all ages, along with the two mile walk/run, and a Kids Diestelhorst Dash for ages eight and under. They also have an annual Turkey Trot in Redding, California, where you can register online at the Shasta Regional Medical Center. All you have to do is mail in your registration form. Online registration closes on Sunday, November twentieth, at twelve p.m. You can sign up during LATE REGISTRATION at Shasta Regional Medical Center (1100 Butte Street, Redding) in the main lobby between November twenty- first and twenty-three from eight a.m. to six p.m. This is also a fund raiser event for charity that benefits the Red Bluff Youth Soccer League Field Lighting Project. So for adults it is twenty dollars, for kids it's five dollars, and for toddlers four and under you get in for free. You can also get a discount by getting a Family of Four fun pack for only forty dollars. In order to be apart of this event in Red Bluff you must register at seven thirty a.m. on the day of pre-registration with Jason at the Chamber Office. When asked how it helps other people, MHSA's Vice President stated, "Well, at first, there wasn't very many people, but word seemed to spread. Right now, stress levels are high. Mental breakdowns are more plausible, and it seems like being able to come around people your age who understand what you're going through seems like a huge reliever for kids who are struggling." MHSA is a first year club here at Red Bluff High School, but already it seems to be helping and inf luencing a lot of people. The hope is that it can pass through the school walls and inf luence the people in the community. Since the main aim is about mental health, hopefully it will inf luence people within the community to care more about mental health clinics for people in need of support.
