It was the first time Amidzich took the leap for the unofficial Polar Bear Plunge. For the past 17 years she has served in the Army, most recently at Fort Lewis in Washington. Having returned to Delafield on Nov. 1, Amidzich said her pregnant friend, Michelle Faretta, asked her to fill in for her this year. Faretta, of Delafield, took the plunge the past four years and provided Amidzich of a list of items she needed to be prepared, including warm footwear. Also important is having someone wait- ing on the shoreline with a bathrobe ready to drape over the jumper's shoul- ders. Jumpers take New Year's Day plunge for ALS Association Robert F. Borkowski/Special to The Freeman Oconomowoc Rugby Football Club member Bruce Lesniak of Hartland (blue trunks, left) leaps into the channel with friends at the annual New Year's Day Polar Plunge, named this year the Ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge to benefit ALS research, hosted by the Sports Channel Bar and Grill in Delafield on Jan. 1. Robert F. Borkowski/Special to The Freeman Bill Betlach of Delafield celebrates his 50th birthday (Dec. 31, 2014) and dedicates his ALS Ultimate Ice Bucket Challenge to friend Joseph Shultz of Summit as Laura Loncin of Delafield, right, records Betlach in action at the Sports Channel Bar and Grill on Jan 1.
