The Hartland native landed her first professional acting gig only days after graduating from West- ern Michigan University in the touring Broadway show that brought her home to Milwaukee this month. Resting at her parents' home on a recent afternoon, Plath said the experience, which began in September, has been amazing. So far the "Anything Goes" cast and crew have traveled to 46 cities since October and will continue to travel and perform until May. A day after Plath graduated with a degree in musical theater perfor- mance in 2014, she traveled to New York City to audition. About a week later she learned she got a part in the musical with songs by Cole Porter. As a 2010 Arrowhead High School grad, Plath performed in "Cats," "Footloose," and "Pirates of Penzance." Her parents own Accent on Dance Studios in Waukesha so she grew up with the arts. Even so, her father, Chris, remembers a musically-inclined young girl. "My wife and I always talk about this, from 6 months old, any time music came on, she was just bop- ping around in her car seat," Chris Plath said. Lexie Plath remembers singing around the house as a child so her parents decided to enroll her in voice lessons. As the character Virtue, one of main character Reno Sweeney's four angels in "Anything Goes," Plath gets to do a lot more singing and dancing. She was familiar with Porter before auditioning for the musical, which includes some of his more famous songs. "I love that it's jazzy and fun and there is a lot of interesting chord changes and interesting notes that aren't typically put together," Lexie Plath said of Porter's work. It's also the first show where she loves all of her costumes. The show is set in the 1930s on an ocean liner traveling from New York City to London. While the camaraderie with the other actors and musicians is fun, traveling is the hardest part on everyone's bodies, Plath said. She was able to enjoy having friends and family in the audience as the show made a stop in Mil- waukee in early January. "It is so much fun. I have had someone in the audience for every show," she said. It's also a great opportunity, she said, to demon- strate the progress she has made. Plath said she feels she is on the right career path and is ready to work wherever she can when the run of "Anything Goes" ends. Ide- ally, she'd love to book a show on Broadway someday. Chris Plath said he is very proud of his daughter, who has accom- plished what it often takes people many years to achieve. "She is living the dream," he said. "She is very lucky. It's also a lot of hard work."
