'The Big Lebowski' Josiah Vasey Opinions Editor A solid game well worth your time. 'Shadow of Mordor' "Captains will remember a player and respond to the player's return accordingly." Juanita VanMeter Staff Writer Low quality and a waste of money! Actress Cassi Thomson, who plays Chloe Steele, in the remake of the movie, 'Left Behind' which played in theaters on October 3 earlier this year. Bluffer Staff Pick A great cult classic comedy! Savannah Sutliff Topics Editor 'Left Behind' is a drama about the rapture- the end of the world by Biblical standards in which fire, floods and earthquakes are followed by the disappearance of all who are truly dedicated to God. This new release is a remake of the original film, which was released in 2001 and starred Brad Noble as the main character, Rayford Steele, an Airline Pilot for JFK airport in New York. In this new version, released October 3, 2014, stars Nicholas Cage as Steele. When I went to see this film I was expecting nothing and I got barely that in return. The original was okay, with decent acting and an average score that conveyed the emotion of the film well enough, but when I went to see the new one in theaters on Tuesday (Oct. 7) I was disgusted with quality and production in the film. The overall film was alright, and it could have been written off as a decent remake if not for the atrocious score, poor acting and quite possibly the worst script ever to be allowed on screen in this genre. With cheesy keyboard and lame synthesized drum accompaniment, the music added no emotion or life to an already dull and dry film. The special effects were anything but, and the only truly noteworthy performance was from a secondary character played by Jordan Sparks, a former American Idol winner gone actress. She had only a few scenes that totaled about twenty minutes of screen time, but her performance rose above the rest. If you leave behind what little production value and talent there was, the writing and story were as weak as the director could have possibly made them. O n top of it all, this film, which in its original form as a novel was supposed to show wisdom and truth in Christianity, took the main theme of the story and threw it out the window by conveying the only three Christian characters we get to see (the woman at the airport, Steele's wife, and the Pastor) as hypocritical "wacko's" who were insanely obsessed with the radical notion of God. This film, despite expecting nothing in the first place, still managed to be an embarrassment to the film community. www.patheos.com Recent movie remake gets 'Left Behind' 'Shadow of Mordor' is a new third person action game in the vein of 'Assassin's Creed'. It has our hero, Tallon, running around killing orcs, riding monsters and feeling excessive amounts of depression over his dead family. It's a great game with fun combat and interesting mechanics that will keep you playing until the end. 'Shadow of Mordor's strongest element is its combat. The combat is incredibly fun and reactive, and it manages to be challenging and still make you feel like a demigod. The executions are brutal and very entertaining in a psychotic sort of way. It is extremely derivative of other games, but I can forgive it due to its excellent execution. Of course, there is also stealth in this game, but it's very basic. There is plenty of side content even after the main game is over. The player can take on challenges, free human slaves and kill lots of orcs if they ever want a break from the awful story. Moving around the world is also fun. The game feature free running mechanics a la 'Assassin's Creed'. In fact, the whole game feels a lot like 'Assassin's Creed', to a ridiculous degree. You can also mount huge feline beasts called Caragors. The graphics are great of course. I played this on a PS4, and I'd recommend you play on a next-gen system to get the best graphics. The story is suckyish. At the beginning of the game, the protagonist's wife and child are killed. This is a strong emotional start, but from there the story becomes generic and bland. Go search for magical artifacts, fight orcs, go kill this guy. Thankfully, one doesn't play 'Shadow of Mordor' for it's story. The shining star of 'Shadow of Mordor' is the nemesis system. This complex system is only featured in the next- gen consoles and I'd say the game isn't complete without it. You see, this game features an orc army that the player has to bring down. Orc captains all have their own strengths and weaknesses. One orc captain might be invulnerable to stealth attacks but also fears fire, a weakness the player can employ to great effect. Their are lots of weaknesses and strengths for captains to have, and each captain feels unique. Captains 'The Big Lebowski' was released 1998 and is a cult classic crime comedy film written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. This movie is not only a beloved but cherished independent comedy that has a huge following of fans and is a must see for all true movie lovers. 'The Big Lebowski' follows the misadventures of "The Dude" (Jeff Bridges), a Los Angles slacker whose main focuses are bowling and hanging out with his bowling team which consists of Walter (John Goodman) an extremist Vietnam veteran and Donnie (Steve Buscemi) the light hearted side kick. This film is about when things change in the life of The Dude all starting with a name mix up with another Lebowski (the Dude's real name) that leads to a huge adventure that includes a kidnapping, gun shots, bowling, large sums of money and one amazing hallucination. This movie is a perfect balance of comedy and chill vibes while still exciting you with crime and adventure. The acting and story line of this film are unlike any movie you might have seen before and the originality of style will make this film in part incomparable to any other. It is the perfect film for just about any occasion as long as you are not easily offended because one aspect that could be debatably a drawback although I don't particularly have issues with it is that although it is all in good fun does have some traces of offending comments and a good share of foul language, but to be fair it all works perfectly with the characters and the style of the film and would not be the same without it. This movie also has an incredible score that puts you in the mind set of the Dude with its very chill and soulful sound track that will get stuck in your head for days after seeing the film. This movie will draw you in with a story line that adds different layers to the story while still keeping the tone of the movie fun and light hearted. This movie is without a doubt Jeff Bridges's best film and maybe one of the best comedies of all time so if you are looking for your next favorite comedy I suggest giving 'The Big Lebowski' a try it will most likely not disappoint you. Jeff Bridges,"The Dude", sitting and having conversation with some friends at the bowling alley. Source: www.graffitiwithpunctuation.net 'The Big Lebowski' (1998) will remember a player and respond to the player's return accordingly. If the player ran away from the last fight with that captain, the captain will remember this and taunt the player. Sometimes, orc captains that the player seems to have killed will return with new scars and a new motivation- killing the player. I once seemingly killed an orc three times! The last time he showed up he had a sack wrapped around his head to cover all of his scars. He declared that he'd kill me for all the pain I'd wrought. Then I decapitated him. Many games have claimed that players will make their own stories. I really feel this is true with 'Shadow of Mordor'. Every encounter can turn into your own little story-an orc might kill you, then be promoted to a captain, who you'd meet later, and it all feels really dang cool. This is a great game, not really perfect in any way, but still pretty great. I would absolutely recommend 'Shadow of Mordor' to anyone who feels too cool for school. utilizes strong action and great performance
