But as homecoming week is here, the community of Red Bluff has its eyes on the school and its students. Though this week is not just for us students, but for the town as well. Being respectful towards the people who carved out this little community is a must during this hectic week, and we at the Bluffer feel as if this week that we should all look forward to not only the fun, but to also break the bad stereotypes that people have us. Students should step up and support the school and the community. This is an opportunity for us to prove to the citizens of this town that we aren't as bad as they assume us to be. There are a lot that us who have to look forward to like the Homecoming parade, all the spirit days, the Homecoming football game, and finally the last big hurrah, the Homecoming Dance. The football game is always a fun time to attend, not just for students but for Red Bluff High Alumni. In fact, we are having the Golden Grads, who have been graduated from this institution 50 years ago. It is the time to remember the Golden Grads and remember the graduating class of 1964. Though we should all have fun this week, we should all be respectful to this town we all know and love, and let the community know we aren't as bad as they think and all in all support the town. It's a huge night for us! A & E Editor Kaylie Capps Staff Writer Dance contract Students feel limited by the dance contract. "There's going to be imperfections that will show up that you won't be able to fix. " Red Bluff High teachers support science behind global warming Homecoming stress not necessary Behind the Podium A s yet another Halloween approaches we are faced with the annual question of "What are you going to be?" Many people are already coordinating which Ninja Turtle they are going to be, making sure their Cinderella costume looks just right or trying to find enough blue body paint to pull off a believable Smurf outfit…this article is not for those people. This article is for the people who have already "grown up" and are "too cool" to dress up and participate in Halloween. Let be honest, life is tough. 6 p e r i o d s of school with all Ho m e wo r k , P r o j e c t s , Q u i z z e s and Tests, friends are great but can add stress to your life, sports and hobbies are also great but take a lot of time and energy out of you, if you have a job the money is nice but a g a i n … time and energy, and don't even get me started about life at home! So life is crazy, and then comes one day a year where you can be a kid again, dress up in a costume and eat some candy…and I'm telling you to do it!! I am lucky enough to have three awesome children who spend most of the year talking about and discussing what we are going to be for Halloween. (Their costume idea pretty much changes after every movie we watch or book we read, but we figure it out.) The kids love every jack-o'- lantern, ghost, goblin, lights on the houses and obviously they are a fan of the candy, but what they talk about most of the time are the costumes. We all have an inner child that would love nothing more than to spend some time getting together an outfit and wearing it around school on Friday… so you should really think about doing it!!. You might feel a little silly and someone may have a better Olaf costume than you…but so what! You can spend the other 364 days of the year dressing normal, being "too cool" or being a "grown up." For one day a year it's okay to have a little fun, dress up a little silly, act like a kid and enjoy life just a little bit more…so just do already! So please dress a p p r o p r i a t e l y , put some thought into it, coordinate with your friends, or surprise them and knock their socks off, but dress up and enjoy HALLOWEEN! So…"What are you going to be?" By Lukas Kennedy Mr. Kennedy has been teaching at Red Bluff High School for many years. He teaches Earth Science and AP physics. When Mr. Kennedy is not teaching he enjoys cooking, playing the guitar and playing with his three kids and wife. Juanita VanMeter Staff Writer/Cartoonist G lobal warming- an issue that has lead the world in debates, arguments and circles of conflicts and scientific controversy for over a twenty years. While today it is a widely accepted concept, there are still many skeptical people who believe it's a load of mumbo jumbo scientific hubbub. When interviewed, Ms. Gantenbein, Mr. Barrow and Mr. Michael had very intelligent, unbiased professional opinions on whether or not global warming is a present issue that should be addressed and taken to heart by all, or simply a superstitious wives tale to excuse some random weather patterns. Barrow stated, "A better term would be global climate change. Empirically speaking there's a lot of data to show the climate is changing…" Michael also stated, "There is a lot of evidence that it is there." Gantenbein said, "I believe we are experiencing major shifts in the climate system." Barrow also continued, "…given geologic time, the climate has changed globally many times before." Gantenbein stated her concern, saying "Whether its cyclical or human caused, w e need to address the consequences of these changes." Barrow stated, "The overall concern is the speed of the current climate change. That is unprecedented, and that's the danger. The current global climate change is something every human should be concerned about." Obviously, this issue is being taken rather seriously by the scientific community at Red Bluff High. Personally, I have never put a considerable amount of thought to the issue, but after i n t e r v ie w i n g t h e s e teachers and hearing their professional opinions, I have decided to put more time into researching this issue, and whether or not it is an issue at all. As to your opinions and beliefs on the issue, I think that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but if you haven't looked into this, don't brush it off as a load of scientific superstition just yet. Many talented, experienced people, including our teachers here at Red Bluff High, have put time, thought and effort into discovering more about the issue for themselves. You are free to have your own opinion, but don't make it a blind one. Our teachers here at Red Bluff High are taking the issue seriously, but they don't appear to be biased. I myself have not made a definite decision on whether or not I believe global warming is a serious problem, but I intend to do more research on the issue and form my own professional, scientific opinion, just as our distinguished scientific staff has, and I would encourage you to do so as well. I t's that time of year again, yes it's Homecoming! To majority of the girls, Homecoming is a spectacular event that occurs on campus, which creates high levels of stress. Yes, a bunch of adolescent girls freaking out about if we're going to get asked by that special someone, what we're going to wear, where we're going to eat, how we're going to do our hair and makeup, and where we will be having pictures taken at. This can cause Homecoming to become stressful. For these reasons it can make it where Homecoming is not memorable. I think the most stressful part of Homecoming is picking out matching outfits. If you're going by yourself it's easy, but if you're going with someone that's where it will get a bit tricky. Your date or friend who you are going with may be picky when it comes to picking out an outfit and that can make it super irritating and stressful. Trying to find the perfect way to do your hair can be difficult. In my opinion I believe that most girls are worried about making Homecoming that one perfect night, when in reality there's going to be imperfections that will show up that you won't be able to fix. But hey, that's what makes Homecoming enjoyable. I remember when I went to Homecoming my first time sophomore year, I went with my best friend. We had met up with a group of our friends and had the best time ever. That was a stress free night; you don't have to worry about anything. All your homework worries go away, anything that's on your mind disappears for a couple of hours. Homecoming can be very stressful but there's no need for it to be, Homecoming should be fun! You have the Homecoming game, and then you have the Homecoming dance itself. Don't be scared to take advantage of these spirit weeks. Trust me, you won't be alone. The dress up days can help you release some stress that Homecoming is causing you to have. Most people love the dress up days; I personally like Pajama Day the most because you get to come to school all comfy and you don't have to worry about being the only one dressed up. Homecoming should be a fun time, don't make it stressful by dwelling over every little thing. Take advantage of these dress up days. It will make your experience at Red Bluff High more memorable. When it comes to getting ready for Homecoming, don't stress out about it, it's supposed to be a fun night. Don't get stressed out, there's no need to be. For anyone who will be attending the dance on Saturday, Have fun!
