We were blessed with an in- spiring and comforting mes- sage this past Sunday morn- ing. "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strong- hold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid" (Psalm 27:1)? May the Lord bless each of you as we rest in Him. Ralph Newkirk, Pastor Marla Morrison, Reporter GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Union St. Winslow Sunday school 9:30 ; Sun- day morning worship 10 a.m.; Sunday evening wor- ship 6 p.m.; Wednesday Bi- ble study at 6 p.m. Bill Chesser, Reporter Christian FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 Regular services: Sunday school 9:30 a.m. and worship service at 10 :30 a.m. Sloth I was recently reminded of an important point; sloth was listed as one of the sev- en deadly sins. No, I don't of- ten keep up with the list of seven deadly or mortal sins. Though they as a category can be helpful, they aren't gospel. All sin is harmful to your soul and detrimental to you work with Christ. But I am struck by some of these sins categorically. Especially sloth. No, I know many of you here is Petersburg and Pike Co. that are hard workers, and I admire your work ethic. But I would venture to say that many of us know some who are lazy. But what if I said that sloth is not just physical lazi- ness? Proverbs 13:4 says; The slacker craves, yet has noth- ing, but the diligent is ful- ly satisfied. Solomon knew from experience the diligent are fully satisfied. Some of us are diligent in some areas, but I would contend that we are still sloth in some areas. May- be you are diligent in main- taining your lawn, but you are sloth in maintaining your heart. You are diligent in so- cial areas, but you are sloth in serving your church. A dil- igence in all of your life with VINCENT CHRISTIAN CHURCH 8264 E. State Rd. 56 Due to the current suggest- ed rules of assembly, we will remain in our homes on the Lord's Day. Regular services: Sunday morning worship and the Lord's supper at 9:30 a.m.; Bi- ble school at 10 :30 a.m.; eve- ning worship at 6:30 p.m. You are welcome to take part in these services. Thoughts "The grace of God still en- ables men and women to live straight in a crooked world." Consider the first Psalm, "Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of the mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night" (Psalm 1:1-2). May we always look to the Lord in good times and in try- ing times. Because He lives. "Be careful for noth- ing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your re- quests be made known unto God. And the Peace of God, which passeth understand- ing, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6 -7). We have before us a di- lemma of great magnitude. It has altered our lives more drastically than anything in this generation before. Yet Paul admonishes us to be "anxious" about nothing. How can we live within the parameters of this verse? By having a lively, intimate rela- tionship with the great God of heaven who is almighty, who loves His children, and whose very joy and delight is to succor and help them at all times and under all cir- cumstances. We can have peace in the storm if the Savior is in our hearts. Just as He spoke peace to the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee and amazed His disciples, so can He bring peace to the troubled soul. In times like these, we need a Sav- ior. If you are caught up in the panic all around, lift your eyes to the One who has the whole world in His hands and trust Him with even this situation. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the King- dom of God, and His righ- teousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be add- ed? I know that great worry has entered the hearts and minds of ma- ny, but we need to stand strong in the Word of God. Plead the blood fresh and anew each morning of every day. There is power in the blood. The song says that the enemy cannot cross the blood line. So stand strong in God and be whole. Be blessed this week.
