No, I don't of- ten keep up with the list of seven deadly or mortal sins. Though they as a category can be helpful, they aren't gospel. All sin is harmful to your soul and detrimental to you work with Christ. But I am struck by some of these sins categorically. Especially sloth. No, I know many of you here is Petersburg and Pike Co. that are hard workers, and I admire your work ethic. But I would venture to say that many of us know some who are lazy. But what if I said that sloth is not just physical lazi- ness? Proverbs 13:4 says; The slacker craves, yet has noth- ing, but the diligent is ful- ly satisfied. Solomon knew from experience the diligent are fully satisfied. Some of us are diligent in some areas, but I would contend that we are still sloth in some areas. May- be you are diligent in main- taining your lawn, but you are sloth in maintaining your heart. You are diligent in so- cial areas, but you are sloth in serving your church. It has altered our lives more drastically than anything in this generation before. Yet Paul admonishes us to be "anxious" about nothing. How can we live within the parameters of this verse? By having a lively, intimate rela- tionship with the great God of heaven who is almighty, who loves His children, and whose very joy and delight is to succor and help them at all times and under all cir- cumstances. We can have peace in the storm if the Savior is in our hearts. Just as He spoke peace to the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee and amazed His disciples, so can He bring peace to the troubled soul. In times like these, we need a Sav- ior. If you are caught up in the panic all around, lift your eyes to the One who has the whole world in His hands and trust Him with even this situation. Be very sure your anchor holds and grips the solid rock.
