The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, March 25, 2020 C- 3 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the KYLA "A meow massages the heart" (Stuart Mc- Millian). This week, PAWS is featuring a very mis- chievous kitten named Kyla, who is always in the middle of whatever activities are going on in the office at PAWS. She likes to add her two cents by literally "jump- ing in" and always lands on her feet. Kyla has me- dium-length, buff-col- ored fur and large gold- en, expressive eyes. She is very warmhearted and anxious to find her forever family. To adopt Kyla, call 812-354-9894. PAWS has a wide va- riety of felines needing homes, so stop in today to find your fur baby. Presbyterian MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m. Come visit us, our doors are always open to you. Paddling through Lent — and life Lent is a time for restor- ing balance to our lives. The Eskimos practice bal- ance as they venture in- to freezing Arctic waters in little boats. If you've ev- er paddled a kayak, you know how easy they are to tip. Thankfully, kayaks are just as easy to turn back up- right. That isn't a bad image for Lent — or for life as a whole. Whatever spiritual disciplines we adopt, if we succumb to temptation, it's no biggie. One of the les- sons of Lent is that, as long as we're traveling light, it takes only a quick twist of the paddle to right us. That paddle twist might take the form of a quick but heart- felt prayer: "Jesus, set me straight again." Or it might mean some extra time set aside for quiet meditation with God. Don't get wor- ried if your spiritual dis- cipline fails now and then. Just let Jesus help you get upright once more, and keep paddling. Office hours: 9 a.m.- noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 It seems to have become ev- ery man for himself and this is an avenue to failure as a country. I have to commend our local CVS store for the "x"s on the floor showing our six foot recommendation because it did make me feel like someone really does listen and attempt to make things as safe as conditions allow. I only hope and pray others will learn and follow their great example. I have said many times that on a personal level I struggle with accepting the President's personality, however during this event we are going through, he has shown himself to be more caring and quite pos- sibly a calm in the storm. I have seen a side of him which I can appreciate and be content with. There is not one man or woman who would care to trade places with him at this time. He is probably just strong enough to help keep us calm during these trying times. We must never forget that Our Lord is still in control and the Pres- ident's calm has been in- stilled in him by God for us. With staying in close to home this week there isn't much to write about and most events which normal- ly supply me with rambling thoughts have been can- celled. It will be more dif- ficult to share blessings for about eight more days of trying to stay away from others, but do your best and may our Lord get us through this. Wesleyan OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812-354-3028 Services will be cancelled for Sunday, March 29. A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of root beer, and he started his journey. When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old man. The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase, and began to take a drink of root beer when he noticed that the old man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie and a root beer. They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy got up to leave, he gave the old man a hug. When the boy got home his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy? "He replied, "I had lunch with God. He's got the most beauti- ful smile I've ever seen! " Meanwhile, the old man, al- so radiant with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked, "Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy? " He replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God. You know, he's much younger than I expected." Too often we underestimate the power of a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an hon- est compliment, or the small- est act of caring. Continue to pray for one an- other. We invite all of you to come and worship with us.
