Re- sults for freshman Ijaa Cham- bers were not available due to issues with the chip timers used to electronically record each runner's place and time. • Pike Central High School senior middle blocker Brook Nalley received honorable mention all-around acco- lades for the second straight year when the Pocket Athletic Conference's All-Conference Team for volleyball were an- nounced. Nalley led the Lady Chargers in ace serves (50) and kills (158). She also had 29.5 blocks, two set-assists and 66 digs. NOVEMBER • A three-point play by sophomore Lauren Vaughn sparked an 18 -2 scoring run as the Pike Central High School girls' basketball team rallied from a 19 -16 sec- ond-quarter deficit to open its season with a 54-34 victo- ry over visiting Evansville Re- itz 54-34 on Nov. 2. • Pike Central High School seniors Gavin Boyd and Ka- leb Claridge scored one goal each to help lead the Boys West (Blue) team to a 5 -1 vic- tory over the Boys East (Red) team during the PostYourT East/West All-Star Soccer Games on Nov. 4 at Knight- stown's Don Willard Field. Four other Charger seniors – Breyton Booker, Camer- on Henson, Tyler Tormohlen and Kyson Western – dished out one assist apiece. The Boys West (Blue) team was coached by Pike Central head coach Chad Western, who was assisted by Chargers as- sistant coaches Jacob West- ern and Tanner Gray. • Pike Central High School senior Peyton Sorgius signed a national letter of intent to play softball at Lindsey Wil- son College on Nov. 10. • Pike Central High School senior Halley Powers signed a national letter of intent to join the women's cross coun- try team at Oakland City Uni- versity on Nov. 13. • Pike Central High School senior Erika Hendrixson signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Maryville University on Nov. 17. • Senior Erika Hendrix- son scored a game-high 16 points as the Pike Central High School girls' basketball team rallied from a 28 -19 defi- cit to defeat host Wood Memo- rial 34-28 on Nov. 17. • The Pike Central High School wrestling team opened its season by going 4- 0 in the Wood Memorial Du- als on Nov. 18. The Chargers won 47 of 56 bouts – includ- ing 25 by pins – while defeat- ing North Knox 57-24, Black- ford 66 -6, Wood Memorial 72-12 and Evansville Bosse 80 -6. Senior Jake Sisk went 4-0 with three wins by pin and one win by forfeit in the 220 -pound division while se- nior Gavin Boyd went 4-0 with three wins by pin and one win by decision in the 182-pound division. • Seniors Quin Bailey and Brittany Young and junior Natalie Bohnert won two in- dividual events each as the Pike Central High School girls' swimming and diving team opened its season with a 129 -42 victory over visiting Tell City on Nov. 20. In boys' action, seniors Jacob Bohnert and Jacob Dudenhoeffer won two individual events each to lead the Chargers to a 111-65 win over the Marksmen. • Senior Bryant Nalley scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds as the Pike Central High School boys' basketball team dropped a 53-50 season-open- ing loss at Northeast Dubois on Nov. 22. • Three Pike Central High School seniors – Christian Al- vey, Clint Boger and Jake Sisk – received honorable mention on the Pocket Athletic Confer- ence's All-Conference Team for football. Alvey was award- ed honorable mention acco- lades at running back after rushing for more than 1,000 yards and leading the Char- gers in rushing attempts and rushing touchdowns. Sisk re- ceived honorable mention as an linebacker, while Boger re- ceived honorable mention as a punter. • Junior Natalie Bohnert broke her own school re- cord in the 100 -yard butter- fly as the Pike Central High School girls' swimming and diving team placed first in a three-team meet hosted by the Lady Chargers on Nov. 29. Bohnert placed first with a time of 1:03.18, besting her previous school-record time of 1:05.92 she set during the 2016 -17 season. DECEMBER • Seniors Silas Goff, Dylan Jones and Jake Sisk placed first in their respective class- es as the Pike Central High School wrestling team fin- ished third out of 10 teams in the Jordan Hill Classic on Dec. 2 at Evansville Reitz. Goff, competing in the 285 -pound weight class, Jones, compet- ing in the 126 -pound weight class, and Sisk, competing in the 220 -pound weight class, all went 4-0 in pool competi- tion. • Senior forward Bryant Nalley scored a game-high 19 points while senior guard Breyton Booker added 18 as the Pike Central High School boys' basketball team defeat- ed visiting Southridge 70 - 50 on Dec. 9. The win was the first of the season for the Chargers following back-to- back road losses at Northeast Dubois and Princeton, as well as the first for first-year head coach Hunter Elliott. • Senior forward Erika Hendrixson scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the second half as the Pike Cen- tral High School girls' basket- ball team rallied from a 13-12 halftime deficit to defeat visit- ing Evansville Bosse on Dec. 9. • The Pike Central High School wrestling team won five of eight matches to place fourth in the Pocket Athlet- ic Conference Duals held at Tell City on Dec. 8 -9. Senior Christian Alvey, wrestling at 195 pounds, won all eight of his bouts, while seniors Si- las Goff – competing at 285 pounds – and Dylan Jones – competing at 126 pounds – both went 7-1. • Pike Central High School senior Erika Hendrixson scored her 1,000th career point during the Lady Char- gers' 58 -51 loss to visiting North Knox on Dec. 16. En- tering the game 12 points shy of the 1,000 -point mile- stone, Hendrixson reached it with 1:30 left in the third period when she hit a short jumper – off of an assist from sophomore Lauren Vaughn following a steal by senior Brook Nalley – to pull the La- dy Chargers to within 35 -33. Hendrixson was the first La- dy Charger to reach 1,000 ca- reer points since the 2006 - 07 season, when Megan Da- vis and Brittany Craney end- ed their high school careers with 1,189 and 1,057 points, respectively. Valerie White graduated in 2006 with 1,040 career points. • Junior Natalie Bohnert broke her own school record in the 100 -yard butterfly for the second time this season as the Pike Central High School girls' swimming and diving team defeated visiting Evans- ville North 100 -83 on Dec. 13. Bohnert placed first with a time of 1:02.92, besting the previous school record time of 1:03.18 she set on Nov. 29 in a home meet against Evansville Bosse and Evansville Central. Bohnert entered the season as the school-record holder in the 100 -yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.01. • Senior Erika Hendrixson scored 21 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Pike Central High School girls' basketball team to a 53-36 victory over visiting Jasper on Dec. 19. The win was the La- dy Chargers' first against Jas- per since Jan. 10, 2008, end- ing a losing streak of 10 con- secutive games to the Lady Wildcats. • The Pike Central High School wrestling team went 4-0 to claim first place in the Wolfpack Super 8 Duals host- ed by Crawford County on Friday, Dec. 22. Five Char- gers were undefeated on the day – sophomore Dalton Wil- liams, who had two wins by pin and two wins by forfeit at 113 pounds; senior Dylan Jones, who had two wins by pin and two wins by forfeit at 126 pounds; senior Christian Alvey, who had two wins by pin and two wins by forfeit; and senior Jake Sisk, who had three wins by pin and one win by forfeit at 220 pounds. • The Pike Central High School boys' basketball team lost to South Knox 48 -40 on Dec. 30 to finish sixth in the 12th annual Graber Post Buildings Holiday Classic at North Daviess. The Chargers opened tournament play on Dec. 27 with an 81-51 loss to Fort Wayne Blackhawk Chris- tian – ranked No. 5 in Class 1A – before rallying for a 56 - 38 victory over the host Cou- gars in the semifinals of the consolation bracket on Dec. 29. It was the fourth straight appearance in the GPB Clas- sic by Pike Central, which placed seventh in 2014, sec- ond in 2015 and third in 2016.
