They are silent in their good deeds but contribute so much to us and our surroundings. Captain Randy Patterson is one of these people. He has served our country in the Army, a former Highway Patrol Offi cer, cur- rently a Rutherford County Airport Operations Manager and Helicopter Pilot for the Ruth- erford County Sheriff Department, a Scout Troop volunteer leader, and a volunteer in the Civil Air Patrol for the past 8 years at the Shel- by Composite Squadron. His contribution to our country, citizens, and youth organizations is nothing short of commendable. Recently, Captain Randy Patterson received the Grover Loening Award presented by Ma- jor Fitzpatrick, for his accomplishments in the Civil Air Patrol. The Grover Loening Award is an award given to Civil Air Patrol (CAP) members who complete Level III of the Senior Member Pro- fessional Development Program. It recogniz- es members who have dedicated themselves to leadership and personal development in CAP. The award was fi rst given in 1964 and honors the late Grover Loening. A noted avi- ation pioneer, he was the fi rst civilian member of the National Air and Space Museum's Ad- visory Board. Of CAP's over 35,000 senior members, only about 350 earn the Grover Loening Award each year. We would like to congratulate and thank him for his service and volunteerism. We are very fortunate to have such a dedicated and giving senior member in our squadron!
