Castle, North Cen- tral (Farmersburg), North Posey, Princeton, Shoals and Vincennes Rivet also partici- pated but did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score. "I know, throughout the day on the high school side, we had a lot not necessarily hap- py with their time, but we still had a lot we could take away from this race," Pike Central head coach Jason Roach said. "Sam Theising and Lane Rid- ao both ran slower in this race than Tuesday's race, but both cut off about a minute from the time they ran in this race last year. Ijaa Chambers set a personal record today. Caden Armstrong and Draven Huff – who twisted his ankle half- way through – finished about 30 seconds faster than this race last year. Jacob Bohnert cut off two minutes from his time last year. A.J. Hill has improved his times from last year at every course and even though he didn't feel like to- day was his best, he cut off four minutes from this course last year." "On the girls' side, Cailey Furman is the only runner that ran today that also ran this race last year and she cut 30 seconds off her time from this race last year," Roach con- tinued. "Charlotte Duden- hoeffer is battling a sprained ankle and she ran her first half really strong until she kind of tweaked it again." "It seems like every year, this invite gives us some kind of adversity," Roach add- ed. "Last year, the big hill by the elementary school was a mudslide from all the rain the night before. This year, it was hot and there was no air move- ment at all. It was very diffi- cult to breathe in it. But every runner gets the same course, so we still have to go out and run. Battling through this ad- versity will make us even bet- ter at the end of the year." Pike Central, which com- peted in the Barr-Reeve In- vitational on Tuesday, Sept. 19, will host the Pike Central Invitational starting at 10 :30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Prides Creek Park. PCMS girls' cross country team finishes 13th in South Knox Invitational Fifth grader Xavery Weisman placed 19th out of 143 total runners as the Pike Central Middle School girls' cross coun- try team finished 13th in the South Knox Invitation- al on Saturday, Sept. 16. Weisman completed the 1.8 -mile course with a time of 12:42. In addition, eighth grader Anna Whitehead placed 45th with a time of 13:30 ; fifth grader Kaylyn Warner placed 67th with a time of 14:14; eighth grad- er Quinlan Teague placed 77th with a time of 14:28; sixth grader Ruby Sallee placed 90th with a time of 14:58, besting her pre- vious personal course re- cord time of 16:02 set in the same race last year; eighth grader Laney John- son placed 109th with a time of 15:30 ; and eighth grader Morgan Sallee placed 122nd with a time of 16:00. Barr-Reeve eighth grad- er Makenna Pruett placed first individually with a time of 11:18. Southridge sixth grader Kelsey Wib- beler finished second with a time of 11:24. As a team, Pike Central scored 284 points, trailing South Knox (50 points), Southridge (103), Princ- eton (147), Vincennes Clark (156), Castle (163), Shakamak (181), Barr- Reeve (195), Eastern Greene (216), Clay City (218), Gibson Southern (259), Evansville Memori- al (266) and Linton-Stock- ton (275). North Knox (290) placed 14th, followed by Plaza Park (446), Loo- gootee (459), Evansville Christian (465), North Daviess (484) and Wash- ington (499). "The girls did very well, with our top three seeing this course for the first time," Pike Central head coach Jason Roach said. "Xavery took to the com- petition very well and stayed strong the whole race. All of these girls keep improving, and even if they have a race without improvement in time, they find something that they can take out of it." In the boys' race, sev- enth grader Dallas Reu- tepohler placed 78th out of 160 total runners with a time of 12:55; fifth grad- er Blaine Barnett placed 86th with a time of 13:12; and sixth grader Wyatt Luff placed 137th with a time of 16:12. Vincennes Clark eighth grader Blake Me- ade placed first individu- ally with a time of 10 :14. Evansville Christian eighth grader Alex Hoo- ten finished second with a time of 10 :32. "This was the first time seeing this course for all three of these runners," Roach said. "Seeing it in a big invite like this can make this course extreme- ly tough. Our tendency in big invites is to start out a little harder than we are used to, and this course is very difficult at the begin- ning. It makes for a long race of fighting through, but all three boys did well at staying strong. They continue to grow as run- ners and this race has the potential to catapult them in their next race." Pike Central will com- pete in the Barr-Reeve In- vitational on Thursday, Sept. 21, before return- ing home to host Gibson Southern at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26. net edition yeah, it's that fast!
