What's new at your library Movie under the stars By Stephanie Rawlins Pike County Library Director This year's summer reading theme is "Build A Better World." In the spirit of summer reading programming, the Pike County Public Library is hosting an out- door movie on the green space behind the Petersburg location. This event will take place at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27. Ev- eryone will need to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks. All are wel- come to begin arriving at 9 p.m. The mov- ie will be Lego Batman and everyone of all ages is invited. Come spend an evening under the stars with friends and family at your library. In Otwell, a Board Game Bonanza has been added every Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. There will be a Pajama Story Time and Color Me Happy program at Winslow on June 29. The Petersburg branch is thrilled to welcome authors Chris and Gin from Indianapolis on Friday, June 23, from 2- 3:30 p.m. There will be signed books giv- en away, talks of illustrating books, as well as a comic book reading. This interactive program is for all ages and light refresh- ments will be served. These and so many other great programming opportunities are being offered this summer. We are adding so many new books every week. If you would like to know what has been added each week, sign up for Wow- brary. Simply go to wowbrary.org, find the library, and sign up with your email. You will get an email every Saturday highlight- ing the new items added each week so you can check out the newest items immedi- ately. Try it today. All of the many events happening at the Pike County Public Library this summer and beyond can be accessed on our website: pikeco.lib.in.us. There is a new Google calendar at our calen- dar tab for easy viewing at any time of the day or night. Also, the link to a sur- vey for our strategic plan efforts is on the home page of the website until July 24. Take the time to fill one out. If you do not have online access, a printed co- py is available at each library branch. We need your thoughts to plan our future. Happy summer reading. Summer can be hard on your eyes. Winslow conducts smoke tests Chris Bledsoe, of Midwestern Engineers, Inc., lights a smoke bomb to be- gin blowing intense smoke into the sewer lines on Union St. in Winslow on Monday afternoon. Winslow had Midwestern use the smoke device to check for gutters and other devices hooked to their sewer system. Street Supervisor David Gayhart said they blow the smoke into the system and then walk around the neighborhood to see where smoke was coming out. He said on Monday, they found one gutter hooked up to the system and sev- eral vacated trailer home sites that hadn't been sealed off. They were going to conduct the tests through Wednesday. Below is smoke coming out of a vent of a nearby home. They do the tests to find sources of storm water getting into their sewer sys- tem, which can overload the system. On Tuesday, one homeowner noticed smoke in their house and called the fire department.
