The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, August 31, 2012 10 A/Otsego Manor 2 x 3 TV Media T Food Network fires up its holiday weekend schedule his Labor Day weekend, those hoping for a little R&R in front of the TV might find themselves resist- ing the urge to fire up that grill or enjoy a greasy spoon classic. The Food Network is lining up some themed program- ming for the holiday week- end. And with cooler days ahead, a full slate of barbe- cue-themed episodes throughout the weekend seems a fitting salute to the dog days of summer that weren't so long ago. On Sunday, the barbecue- themed episode of "Good Eats" gets a special encore, in which Alton Brown takes a loving look at the world of homemade smoked pork. There are a few other barbe- cue-themed encores that A new episode of "Bobby Flay's Barbecue Addiction" is part of Food's Labor Day weekend line-up morning as well, but between those are some new episodes for viewers looking for some fresh inspiration. For the bud- get-conscious grill master, Melissa d'Arabian manages to make some inexpensive pulled pork sandwiches with side dishes in "Ten Dollar Din- ners." And the Food Net- work's barbecue king, Bobby Flay, brings home the flavors of the East in "Bobby Flay's Barbecue Addiction." He walks viewers through the steps involved with creating mouth-watering, Korean-in- spired pork shoulder lettuce wraps with kimchi. On Labor Day Monday, however, Food switches gears (slightly) to offer up some back-to-back episodes of its popular series "Chopped." Want to see someone else sweat it out while you enjoy a day off? The four contestants featured in each episode of "Chopped" sure do, as they race against the clock to ex- ceed expectations with the ingredients they're given. The marathon still sticks close to the weekend's grilling theme, though, by including all five instalments of this summer's "Grill Masters" competition (sorry, I won't spoil it by re- vealing the winner here). The rest of Monday's lineup is entirely devoted to Guy Fi- eri and the beloved "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" series. Whether it's duck fried rice in a Memphis pub or gyros in a Seattle auto-shop-turned- Greek-restaurant, Fieri is game to stop in at the small or lesser-known places that are true hits with the locals. The evening lineup also in- cludes a brand new episode in which the spiky-haired host journeys across Massachu- setts to sample some stuffed specialties. From an Italian seafood feast in Boston to gourmet sandwiches in Brookline, Fieri happily takes it all in while making at-home viewers salivate over the unique local take on these tasty classics.
