Page 8 - shelby shopper & info - 704/484-1047 Neal Sr. Center Lunch Box Ministries is devoted to promoting healthy and independent living for our senior citizens. They strive to do so through offering not only the Meals On Wheels programs but also through their congregate sites. They are con- stantly working to use resources to best benefit seniors. They are looking to start a new program called the Lunch Box Ministries in September 2012, which will offer more food to Meals On Wheels clients. They are asking for donations of specific food items such as: • 12oz cans of soup – If possible pop-tops are preferred • 12oz cans of vegetables or fruit – If possible pop-tops are preferred • Individually wrapped snack cakes •Tuna They greatly appreciate the blessings they have been given through the years. Their goal is to thankfully receive these blessings of food and help our seniors receive more food. The Neal Sr. Center is now accepting donations. • Dried or box milk (shelf –stable) CORNER research. Feeling that your life has purpose boosts immune function and blood vessel health, protecting the brain! The Senior Center could use your help in the following areas: * Volunteers are needed in the kitchen to assist with our homebound seniors getting a Keep your brain young by lending a hand! People who volunteer are less likely to mentally slow down as they age, according to new meal. We need your help in preparing, packaging, and delivering meals. *Volunteers at the front desk to help greet participants as they enter and help answer the phone. *Volunteers in the Consignment Shop to help oversee sales, provide great customer ser- vice, and receive and price new merchandise. *Volunteers in the Gift Shop to welcome and greet customers and to sell merchandise. *Volunteers in the kitchen to assist with preparing hotdogs and other concessions. *Volunteers for Monday Night BINGO to help with floor sales The Senior Center offers many classes and activities to keep your brain young. Please come by and check us out. You will be surprised at the many opportunities available to keep your brain young! Our next volunteer meeting will be August 1, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Please come and join us. Thank you, Lori Livingston - (704) 482-3488 Night Dance on Friday, August 24, 2012 at the Neal Senior Center located at 100 T.R. Harris Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150. The Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center will host the 4th Western Theme 4th from 7:00 – 10:00 pm. The cost is $5.00 for adults age 55 and above and the Sixteenth Avenue Band will provide the music. Friday Night Dance The dance will be held Friday Senior Center's Gift Shop (Cobwebs 'n Confetti) provides the public with an opportunity to access a wide variety of homemade cakes, pies and homemade stickies. Some of the cakes available for purchase are pound cake, 5-Flavor Pound Cake, Rotten Coconut Cake, Fresh Apple Cake and Carrot Layer Cake. Pies to choose from are Pumpkin, Chocolate and Pineapple Coconut to name a few. For a price list and to place orders, please call the Council on Aging/Neal Senior Center at (704) 482-3488. Orders will need to be placed at least three business days in advance.
