The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, July 20, 2012 10 A/Otsego Manor 2 x 3 'Masters' returns to Bravo with some familiar names TV Media Y ou're a big name, even outside of the local food scene -- your restaurant is full every day and there's no shortage of praise for your food and your skills. So how do you keep all that creativity flowing and your skills sharp? What do you do when you're at the top of your game? For many chefs, a little healthy competition is their way of staying innovative. The food industry is a naturally competitive one, and a drive to outshine others by pushing the envelope is often what keeps chefs from resting com- fortably on their laurels – which can spell trouble with fickle consumers looking for their next great eating experi- ence. Perhaps this explains why shows such as "Chopped," derway on Wednesday, July 25, celebrity chef Curtis Stone (fresh off his stint as host of "Around the World in 80 Plates") returns to guide viewers through all of the ac- tion. Twelve new "cheftes- tants" have signed on for the grueling competition, includ- ing a few familiar faces such as Chris Cosentino ("Chefs vs. City," "The Next Iron Chef"), Debbie Gold (from Season 2 of "Top Chef Masters") and Lorena Garcia (from NBC's "America's Next Great Res- taurant"). Their worthy oppo- nents include Kerry Heffer- nan, Thierry Rautureau, Missy Robbins, Art Smith, Sue Torres, Takashi Yagihashi, and Patri- cia Yeo, along with Clark Frasier and Mark Gaier, who will have to put their business partnership aside to become rivals – but for a good cause, of course. The action heats up in Las James Oseland, Curtis Stone and Ruth Reichl in "Top Chef Masters" "Iron Chef America" and "Top Chef" don't seem to face any shortage of willing contestants. But Bravo's "Top Chef Masters" takes it a step further: it pits big names against each other in an elim- ination-style contest that will ultimately benefit one lucky charity (which will receive $100,000) while preserving/ enhancing the winning chef's reputation. As a fourth season gets un- Vegas – at The Cosmopolitan, to be exact – where some fa- mous names stop by to help judges James Oseland, Ruth Reichl, Krista Simmons and Francis Lam make the final decision on which chef out- shines the others in their as- signed task(s). These celebrity judges include boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, folk rock duo In- digo Girls, Burlesque perform- er Dita Von Teese, rock band The B-52s, skating legend Bri- an Boitano and "Girls Next Door" star Holly Madison. Aside from avoiding the usual elimination, the cheft- estants will also have an add- ed incentive to out-perform in every challenge: the winner of the episode's quick-fire chal- lenge will win $5,000 where- as the winner of the elimina- tion challenge will net their charity a $10,000 donation.
