Their pre- season came to an end when they faced off against the Orland Trojans and fell short with a 24-10 loss. The sentiment of always bettering yourself is not lost here, as up and down the roster, players look to put the loss behind them and move forward. Wesley Clawson, starting quarterback is out injured and although the team has high hopes for Marshal Brose, Clawson's absence has been a huge hit. "He's a tremendous player, leader, and teammate, but we have always preached next player up mentality and we expect Marshal to have a great season," stated Coach Hein. Brose understands that he has big shoes to fill and he hopes to do his best. Along with Clawson's injury the team is another key player short. Junior, Tanner Gantenbein suffered an injury to his shoulder in Orland's game. The team is learning to cope with their shortness of players and they hope to pull through with the rest of the talent on the team. The team remains positive for the future as they are continuing to become more and more cohesive every week, making fewer big mistakes and capitalizing on more opportunities when they are presented to them. Besides the obstacles that the boys are having to overcome, they are looking forward to to the big game on Homecoming night. The Homecoming game is important to the players, the families, and the community. "We're representing generations of Spartans on the field and this is important to all of us," stated Hein. For the Homecoming game the boys will face off against the Yreka miners and they expect to pull out a win. "I know we have a really good chance against Yreka, and we actually have an advantage because the new coach,Coach Culp,is from Yreka and he was the head coach there," stated Fite. The team wants to give their home crowd an unforgettable game, especially the Seniors, with this being their last Homecoming game. "It's bittersweet, because I have enjoyed every second of playing football with these guys all 4 years, and I'm practically leaving behind a family," explained Senior, Dillon Garcia. With mixed emotions and excitement the boys want a better outcome for the rest of the season and they are looking towards a bright 2016 season. The Red Bluff High school swim team has plunged into the pool with a bright outlook on their season. The team is unique and talented given that several of the athletes have been competitively swimming long before high school. Some of them were members of the SOAR team who then moved on together at the high school level. When asked what their favorite thing about the team was the swimmers agreed that the best part about the team was the supportive environment and how everyone was like a close knit group of friends. "We have already started a bond as a team and we'll continue to grow at each meet," stated Senior, Julia Brandt. Brandt stands towering and has tremendous expectations for This years Red Bluff High Schools Frosh volleyball team started off with a loss against Shasta High School. When Emma McDonald was asked how she believes her team will do throughout the season, she responded with, "I really think that our team would have a good shot at completing the season on top because we have really came together as not only a team, but a volleyball family!" Ella Dodson was asked how she thought she was doing this year compared to last year and she replied with, "I really think that I am improving with my skills because i played mainly back row in my previous years and now I can hit a little bit." Alethia Mcdonald, the coach, was asked how she thought the team was doing, and she replied with , "I think we are going to have a pretty good chance at championships because we are finally starting to talk on the court and we are becoming one as a team." For an incoming freshman, it is important to point this fact out first: nobody likes the process of cuts. Athletes don't like knowing that they might be told they aren't good enough parents don't like knowing that their children might not be good enough; and coaches HATE having to tell students who are motivated and excited about playing that they aren't good enough. So why do we have cuts? When it comes to tryouts for sports teams as freshmen, it can be a little nerve racking and some of them are so scared that they won't even tryout. The next game that the Freshman play in is actually a tournament against many teams at Orland High School. up with that, the girls usually play doubles or singles against their teammates to, "move up the ladder," according to Vise and Jonay Alexander, freshman. Vise started playing this year because, "My friends do it and I wanted to play sports." Both ladies plan on continuing to play tennis throughout high school. Last week, the team won their match against Shasta. While these girls and the rest of their team work to refine their individual achievements, they also strive to further progress as a team. and serves during practice.
