This year's theme is Spartans Go To Hollywood. The dress-up days are a great way for students to get involved and this year they are better than ever. The dress up days are Pajama Day on Monday, Beach Bum vs. Country Folk on Tuesday, Mathlete vs Athlete on Wednesday, Movie Character Day on Thursday, and Green and Gold Day on Friday. For each dress up day the classes are given points for each person who dresses up that day. Green and Gold day is the day to really dress up because it's game day and our school colors are showing our football team how supportive we are towards them. The week begins with the Kick-Off Assembly in the PAC. The Kick-Off Assembly consists of the queen nominees presenting their skits to each class, a band, and a choir performance. Float construction also takes place this week every day after school. Each class was told to pick a movie and their f loat had to be made based off of what the movie was about. The Freshmen chose Indiana Jones, the Sophomores chose Monsters Inc., the Juniors chose Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Seniors chose Harry Potter. The Homecoming Rally is the most enthusiastic rally of the year. This is because, the Spartans all come together to defeat a common competitor. It's the first time that our Spartans will face off against Yreka. It will take place promptly after 4th period. During the rally, the classes who are the loudest and the most spirited take the win. Between classes, the biggest competition is the class poster and the f loat. The winner of each dress up day is also announced during this time. The parade is during 7th period and everyone is required to go. In the parade, the f loats will be presented, including, the queen and princess nominees, the school clubs, and the winners of the car show. The week has been hectic and everyone is looking forward to the announcement of the 2016 Homecoming Queen. On Friday night, the nominees and princesses will be presented in front of the crowd while being escorted by their fathers. The girls have shown that they are each deserving of the crown but in reality it's up to the students on who they choose as their queen. The coronation will take place during half-time of today's Varsity football game. Sarah Herrera Staff Writer WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) is a six state association that certifies high schools for colleges. During March 27 through the 29 in 2017, a group of 7 educators in California come to the Red Bluff High campus and evaluate its programs. They come in and look at the impact on student learning and examine the school's plan on how they're going to meet certain goals to improve the overall atmosphere on campus. Red Bluff High School teachers meets every other Wednesday and have been for almost a year preparing for the 2017 WASC evaluation. During the meetings, they're developing a six year action plan that focuses on high quality student learning and school wide improvement. "They're looking to see if it is a viable plan," said Mike Fox, Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator. "It is a big process that involves m a ny p e ople such as t e a c h e r s , parents, and c o m m u n i t y m e m b e r s . All those people make constituents and we get their input to help develop this WASC plan," he continued. T h e plan is g r a d e d on six categories: vision and p u r p o s e , leadership and staff resources, curriculum, instruction and how it's delivered, assessment and accountability, school climate, and support for the academics. After presenting their plan, they either certify it with a clear, a six year, a three year, a two year or a one year stamp. It's very rare that a school gets a clear. "We've always gotten a six year stamp," Fox said. With this six year stamp comes a profile update, a refinement of the School wide action plan and on the third year, they come to check on the progress. "Red Bluff High School is developing a plan to educate our youth and prepare them for secondary education," he commented. Not only does RBHS help students prepare for college or any other education, but it works to assist students who aren't taking that route to gain the skills they need in a professional environment. -Mike Fox
