The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, June 22, 2012 10 A/Otsego Manor 2 x 3 The "wanted" chef in ques- tion is an executive chef. In any restaurant, the person in this position is usually the one who is running the show in the kitchen – from menu cre- ation to placing orders with suppliers and managing the staff. Therefore, a restaurant's success (along with its own- ers' fortunes, in many cases) depends largely on ensuring the right person is at the helm of the day-to-day kitchen ac- tivities. That can be a tall or- der to fill for some eateries that can't necessarily afford to wait to see if their new chef is a good fit for the place. That's where "Chef Want- TV Media S Burrell tests job applicants in 'Chef Wanted' he's been an executive chef and a trusted "Iron Chef" sous chef. She's been the best of the worst (three times) and she's been giving away restaurant-grade cooking secrets for years. She's Anne Burrell, the spiky blonde-haired host who has been a prominent Food Network fixture in the last few years. Since first coming to prominence as Mario Bata- li's assistant in "Kitchen Sta- dium," Burrell has easily branched off on her own in other TV projects, including "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef" and her three turns as mentor in "Worst Cooks in America." Now, Burrell is set to step out of the kitchen and into the not-as-glamorous HR side of the business with her latest Anne Burrell, seen here in "Secrets of a Restaurant Chef," hosts the new series "Chef Wanted With Anne Burrell" project, "Chef Wanted With Anne Burrell." The six-episode series premieres Thursday, June 28, on the Food Net- work, with an additional air- ing on Sunday, July 1, follow- ing "Food Network Star." ed" can help. Its goal is to bring together candidates and prospective employers to find the perfect match for the two sides. Each week, four applicants compete for a choice position as an execu- tive chef in a specific restau- rant. Burrell puts the appli- cants to the test both outside and inside the kitchen, where they'll have to outshine their competition while running the restaurant. The profitabili- ty – and palatability – of their dinner service is what's key to winning one of them their dream job. The premise might seem kind of familiar, with good reason: Food premiered "Chef Hunter" back in November of last year, and it, too, pit out- of-work chefs against each other in a competition for a job as head chef at a promi- nent eatery. But Burrell's par- ticipation in this particular project infuses it with star power, a well-known dynamic personality and a whole lot of first-hand experience to share with both participants and viewers.
