The Promise of the Second Coming Testaments are filled with promises of the second coming of Christ. Someone has reported that there are 1,845 references in the Old Testament alone and a total of 17 books that give it prom- inence. Of the 260 chapters in Both the Old and New the entire New Testament, there are 318 references to Christ's second coming. That averages one out of ev- ery 30 verses. Furthermore, 23 of the 27 New Testament books refer to this great event. That leaves only four books that do not refer di- rectly to the Second Com- ing. Interestingly, three of these four books are single- chapter letters which were written to specific persons on a particular subject. Bob Shepherd, Reporter Ryan Edrington, Superin- tendent, Rev. A living example of love God's love is in you. What The Press-Dispatch you need to do is make a de- cision and let it flow. Pray this prayer today: In Jesus' Name, I make a fresh and strong commit- ment today to live the life of love, to let the tenderness of God flow through me and heal the wounded hearts of those I meet. Father, teach me to love even when things go wrong. To be patient and kind when the children are underfoot. To overlook the spiteful words of an angry spouse. To rejoice when someone at the office gets the raise that I thought I needed. Teach me to talk in love, to lay gos- sip quietly aside and to take up words of grace instead. Lord, Your word says that to be patient in situations where we have no control. We allow frustration and im- patience to take over. God's timing seldom matches our expectations. As we reflect on God's faithfulness and perfect wisdom, we are re- minded with each step of faith that we can turn our impatience, worries, even our failures over to the Lord. We have this promise placed an important phone call and, after pressing all the right numbers for the dept. you want, you get this recorded message,"Please wait for the next available representative"? Then the music begins, then the mes- sage again and more music, more message, more music. You've been on the phone 10 mins. and haven't spo- ken to a live person yet. You just want to slam the phone down. It's so difficult to wait, from the prophet Isaiah: "Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion.... Blessed are all who wait for Him"(30:18). The more we wait for and depend upon the Lord, the easier it is to respond in trying situations with patience and love. Perhaps this prayer is rageous" series of sermons and Sunday school lessons next week. These have been very inspiring and we have learned a great amount through this study.
