Elliott, Pastor 812-354-6351 (home) ing, they came from the house of the synagogue of- ficial, saying, 'Your daugh- ter has died; why trouble the Teacher anymore?'" (Mark 5:35) Jairus faced a crisis. His daughter was "at the point of death." In desperation, he reached out to Jesus. Then, as Jesus was traveling to see the girl, a woman in the crowd around Him touched His hem and was healed of a hemorrhage that had plagued her for 12 years. Larry Barr, Pastor Jim Williams, Associate Pastor Terry and Carol Hightow- er, Reporters ZOAR UNITED the woman, Jairus learned that his daughter already had died. The crowd con- cluded that nothing more could be done, except to "trouble" Jesus. The Greek word here means to annoy or harass. To them, the matter was closed. These people had placed limits on their faith and what Jesus could do. But He want- ed to demonstrate that He wasn't limited by popular opinion…that no situation was impossible…that He had no time limits…that He wasn't annoyed or troubled by Jairus' needs…and that He didn't feel harassed. He told him, "Don't be afraid. Just have faith." (v. 36). De- spite outward evidence that seemed daunting, Jesus was able to bring the girl back to life! When we face problems, it can seem natural to be like these people who surround- ed Jairus. It would be easy to be limited by popular opin- ion, to stop looking to Jesus, to stop believing, and to give up hope. As you face problems, to Jesus—problems about health or finances, relation- ships or direction; problems big and small; problems in your own life or in the lives of friends or family mem- bers; even problems that seem impossible to solve. The other is subjective; it is a trustworthy character. One refers to what a per- son does; the other to what he is. If I have faith in you, you should keep faith with me; you should be trustworthy. Seven times in St. Paul's 3:22 he states that "the Scripture hath conclud- ed all under sin, that the promise, by faith of Jesus Christ, might be given to "them that believe." That he does not refer to our faith in Christ is evident on the surface in each case. In the passage above he de- clares that the righteous- ness of God, which is "by the faith of Christ," is con- ferred "upon all them that believe" (Here's your faith in Him). Similarly, in Galatians 3:9, the Apostle expresses his desire for a righteous- ness not of his own, "but that which is through the faith of Christ"— and then adds: "the righteousness which is of God by faith." Here's man's faith again! He has faith in Christ be- cause Christ is complete- ly faithful, completely worthy to be believed in. He paid the full penal- ty for our sins and is now in heaven dispensing the merits of Calvary—riches of grace, mercy and for- giveness. But remember, "the faith of Christ" always pre- cedes our faith in Christ. What good would it do us to believe in Him for salva- tion if He were not wholly to be relied upon for this? But He can be trusted "to save... to the uttermost [all] who come unto God by Him" (Hebrews 7:25). This is why Paul could say to the terrified jailor at Philippi: "Believe on the Lord Je- sus Christ and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31). in Iraq and Afghanistan many hearts have been bro- ken and many feel the pain from a war that never seems to end. Our solders return with many hurts, wounds and things they can't under- stand, other than one fact; they love America. There is a power in God's love and personal forgiveness that can help bring healing to a troubled mind and bro- ken heart. We must never lose hope and always keep faith alive. We must learn to forgive rather than live with anger and resentment. Don't allow the past to col- or your entire life or define your future. Don't keep look- ing backward but discover a better future. For many years I traveled feelings for a long time with a grudge or experience the forgiveness of God. Forgive- ness can be a gift to the of- fender and offended. The storms of life bring many hurts, misunderstandings and pain. Life is too short not to discover the secret of happiness. When one holds hatred and resentment in their heart many people usu- ally suffer. After the years fighting America and many coun- tries of our world. After mil- lions of miles and speaking to more than four million people the message never changed. It was one of love, hope, forgiveness and life- changing possibilities. The message is still relevant to- day People need to experi- ence the forgiveness of God and believe in Jesus Christ.
