Photo provided SPORTSMAN'S CORNER SPORTSMAN'S CORNER OUTDOOR TRUTHS Last year I broke down and bought me two Avian X decoys. If you're a turkey hunter you know these are not cheap. They are the most realistic decoys that I know of on the market. I bought a hen and Jake. (A Jake is a young gobbler for those who may not know.) I used them at the end of last year and during every hunt this year. It's amazing how effective they can be and how they can draw the attention away from the hunter which gives us a lot more leeway when it comes to movement. I think the best way to use these decoys is in the tandem I've described. When the Jake is with a hen, a gobbler is more apt to come to the decoys. He does that in order to fi ght the Jake and take the hen. If the hen decoy is by itself, nature takes over and the Tom simply waits on the hen as nature has designed it. If the Jake is alone, the gobbler has no reason to waste his time fi ghting. But if the Jake is trying to take his hen, the fi ght is on! I saw this up close last year. Just before I put an arrow in a nice gobbler, he viciously attacked my Jake decoy. (I love when a good plan comes together.) This year I spent over an hour waiting and watching a gobbler in the distance. Eventually he strutted over to my decoy layout as well. He ended up on my dinner plate. Each time that I have set this decoy tandem up, I have had success. I love it. I've been so impressed with my new decoys that I have won- dered if there is anything in my own life that has me fooled. I mean is there anything that I am convinced is real but when I really think about it, it's not? I believe there is. In fact, I believe there is in a lot of areas. But in order to believe this, I fi rst have to fi rst believe I have an enemy. If I have no enemy, these life decoys are harmless. They may fool me at fi rst but I would soon fi nd out they are what they are. A recent survey discovered that only about 40% of Chris- tians believed in a real evil enemy called Satan. That means that most Christians will think his decoys are harmless. It also means they will never know the truth until it is too late. Why do I believe Satan is real? Because Jesus did. And when you look at those who wrote about Jesus, even outside the Bible, there is no evidence of his testimony being anything but true. Dean Champion and Fred Wright had 10.4 to claim second and third with 10.1 was Doug Sparrow and David O'Shields. Big fish was a 3.4 largemouth, and that was a tie between the teams of J R Garland/ Rick Miers and Ray Hembree/George Crosswhite. Down on Lake Wylie, John Black and Roger McNeilly picked up the win 14.4. David O'Shields and Doug Sparrow had 11.8 and were second, and there was a tie for third between Fred Wright/ Dean Champion and Earl/John Proctor. Both had 11.2. This week its back to Lake Norman. Moss On the Thursday night events at Moss Lake. Last week it was David and Dennis Thorton bringing 16.80 and anchor- ing that with a 7.85 largemouth (big bass of the night). Keith Burton had 13.42 to claim second followed by Tyler Ward and Jeremy Bouldin with 12.11. Maverick and Charles Canipe had 11.67 and landed in fourth, and rounding out the top five was Jeremy McSwain and Greg Henson with 11.44. Week before last, Jamie and Holden McSwain had 10.87 and picked up the win, followed closely by J R Garland and Ronnie Beason with 10.83. David and Andrew Thorton took third with 9.27. Charles and Maverick Canipe got fourth with 6.22. Ric Cody and David Sturgess' 6.58 was good for fifth. Big bass was a 3.12 brought in by Max and Jason Jones. Moss-Friday The Still Blessed anglers, who fish Moss Lake on Friday night had Russell Kiser and Jeremy Bouldin taking the win with 10.2. Ronnie Beason and J R Garland had 9.48 and were second, they also had big bass with a 3.8 largemouth. Rick Carson and Rick Franklin got third with 8.5, and in fourth with 8.42 was Nathan White and T J Harris, they had second big bass with a 3.38 largemouth. Every Friday from 6:30 til midnight, these guys are fishing. Entry is $40 per boat and a one time $5 membership.
