Once again, 2 days of carnival fun at the Shelby City Park on April 28th and 29th. Saturday is the big day! The Shelby City Park opens at 11am with ALL NEW rides, inflatable bounce arounds, children's activi- ties and games and fun for all. Purchase your $5 arm band at the gate and off you go to ride all day. New to the festival this year is the 1st Annual Little Miss Merry Go Round Pageant. Girls ages 0-18 will compete for 8 individual titles and one overall Grand title. Competition begins at 8:30 a.m. Shuttle buses will run in 30 min- ute increments from the Shelby City Park to: Uptown Shelby, Shelby Middle School parking on Sumter Street, Ingles Grocery Store on US 74 West and Lowe's on Earl Road off US 74. A grand finale Fireworks dis- play at the Shelby City Park will mark the end of the kick off day of this fabulous festival around 9:00 pm. On Sunday, join us for another full day of fun. Ellen, came to thank everyone. She said she was "at a loss for words by the help people have provided." Cole's mother, very popular 16 year old, passed away in his sleep. Shocked and in denial, his family and friends wanted to do something to help defray the cost of his funeral. Saturday, April 14, a motocross was held in Cole's honor. "Everything about Cole was special", said his mother, Ellen. "He truly cared about everyone." On February 19, 2012, Timothy "Cole" Parker, a motocross benefit was a perfect way to honor Cole's memory. He loved to ride a dirt bike. Motocross Express sponsored the event. J.R., who represented the sponsor, presented a check for $722 to Cole's grateful mother. The –M. A. Cole Parker Benefit Nets 722 Cole Parker Benefit Nets $ 722 Historical Museum on Saturday, April 14, between the historic Robert Barber and George Washington Cornwell open houses. Outside, "The Log Cabin String Band" filled the air with old time tunes that have endured the centuries. The 38th North Carolina Troops Civil War Re-enactors set up camping sites and displayed some activity from the civil war era. Some even slept on the campgrounds overnight. A special treat was the appearance of Mark Hughes, author of "The New Civil War Handbook: Facts and Photos for Readers of All Ages". He autographed books and spent time with visitors. The most interesting book is now available at the Kings Mountain Historical Museum gift shop. It was a great opportunity for all, young and old alike, to experience a live history lesson. The museum is a must for all Cleveland County school children as well as residents. History came alive out back of the Kings Mountain – M. A.
