C-2 Church Wednesday, December 23, 2015 The Press-Dispatch Our furry friends have the power to moti- vate and inspire us to be better people during the Christmas season and throughout the year. This week, PAWS is featuring a gregarious young hound named Ru- fus, who was found aban- doned near Sugar Ridge and was cold and very hungry. He perked up as soon as he knew he was safe and had people around to care for him. He loves to be with peo- ple and also loves to play with other dogs and pup- pies. He always seems to have a smile on his face and a vigorously wag- ging tail. Rufus is a Beagle Bas- sett mix, has soft, short fur that is white and brown. He has a perfect- ly round brown spot on his head that adds to his unique appearance and is approximately two years old. Rufus can be adopted by calling 812-354-9894. All the pets at PAWS want to wish you a Merry Christmas. Don't forget to pick up some rawhide chews or temptations for our pets and drop them by the shelter. Christ Lived among Men A missionary visiting a poor hut in a refugee district was challenged by a suffer- ing woman: "You tell us that you are interested in us and want to help us. But it's very easy for you to simply come to see us in our poverty-strick- en home. The question is, are you ready to bring your fam- ily from the clean and com- fortable home in which they live, in order to live in our dis- trict with all its poverty and suffering and sin? Would you do that in order to lift us up? " That is exactly what Christ did. "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us" ( John 1:16). George Shepherd, Report- er MT. OLIVE G.B. At Christmas, Christians have many opportunities to retell the news that a Sav- ior has been born. People near and far are caught up in the festivities of the season, though they may not know why, and once the excitement fades, they are left with only emptiness. We need a reminder from God's Word: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulders: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace" (Isa- iah 9:6). That promise was partially fulfilled 700 years later when Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Thirty-three years after His birth, He paid the price for our sins on the cross and rose from the grave. Today, He is the Savior of all who place their faith in Him, giving in- ner peace and joy to those who know Him as we live in this sinful world. We also look forward to His return when as Savior, Lord and King, He will rule the world in peace and righteous- ness forever. As Christians, we have the wonderful hope in our hearts and can cele- brate it anew each Christmas. Eddie Willis, Pastor Karri Brock GR ACE G.B. CHURCH 1007 E. Sunday morning service at 10 a.m., with Sunday School classes at 11 a.m. Thursday night services at 7 p.m. Each month on the 4th Sunday, 2 p.m. at Amber Manor, minis- try in music and the Word. In- tercessory prayer Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. at House of Mercy. What an awesome time of the year, a time to celebrate the birth of a King, my Sav- iour and Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ, the son of the living God. May you give the greatest gift of all this season and shed the love of God in your heart abroad to those that are in a hurting and help- less state. The children's Christmas program was an awesome feat, they practiced hard and brought forth evidence of their labor. If you are unable to shed abroad the love of Jesus this season there is no better time than now to ask Him into your life. He is standing with arms open wide ready to welcome you into the fold. It is your de- cision. May you find peace and joy in your life in the week ahead. Our prayers are for our country, government leaders(federal, state, county and local), soldiers and their families, those in nursing homes and hospitals, loved ones and friends that are sick and afflicted, churches and pastors. Take time each day to pray and read the Word of God. Visit those in need and be- come a friend to someone who needs lifted up. Your days will be blessed and your life more pleasant. "But the angel said to her, 'Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Je- sus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob for- ever; his kingdom will nev- er end.' 'How will this be,' Mary asked the angel, 'since I am a virgin? ' The angel an- swered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the pow- er of the Most High will over- shadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God'" (Luke 1:30 -35). May your heart be lifted in praise this Christmas for the wonderful gift of Jesus and the joy He brings to our lives. Thousands of peo- ple spending months saving, shopping for gifts, hanging lights and greenery, decorat- ing their tree, baking cook- ies, preparing meals, send- ing cards and traveling hun- dreds of miles to spend this special day with loved ones. There's only one person they didn't invite, You. Now imag- ine how Jesus must feel, many celebrating his birthday but excluding him from the party. Some being so busy that they forget to invite Him, some not acknowledging him or even allowed to mention his name. This year, take time to spend with your loved ones and enjoy the wonder and the beauty of the Christmas season, but most of all don't forget to invite Jesus to your celebration. He came into the world as a tiny baby in a manger, lived a sinless life on earth and died a horrible death on the cross for your sins to be forgiven. Give Him the praise he deserves. He is the true reason for the sea- son. God bless you and have a very Merry Christmas. If at anytime you need a church to attend, we welcome you to ours.
