November's 4.2 percent jobless rate – which was one-half of a percentage point higher than the re- vised 3.7 percent unemploy- ment rate Pike County re- corded in October – was the county's lowest jobless rate for the month of November since 2007, when it was 3.7 percent. The increase ended a three-month stretch dur- ing which the Pike County's jobless rate remained below four percent, which was the longest stretch the coun- ty experienced 10 straight months of unemployment rates below 4 percent from August 2000 to May 2001. According to estimates released by the Indiana De- partment of Workforce De- velopment, 6,045 of Pike County's labor force of 6,310 were employed dur- ing November, leaving 265 persons without jobs. In November 2014, when the county's jobless rate was 5.0 percent, it was es- timated that 6,294 of the county's labor force of 6,623 were employed, leaving 329 persons without jobs. In November 2014, Warrick County's job- less rate was 4.9 percent. Statewide, county non- seasonally adjusted unem- ployment rates increased in 89 counties and remained the same in Greene, Owen and Switzerland counties from October to November. Dubois and Hamilton counties registered the state's lowest unemployment rate during November at 3.3 percent, while Vermillion County had the state's high- est unemployment rate dur- ing November at 6.6 percent. The Columbus Metropol- itan Statistical Area (MSA) had the lowest jobless rate among the state's MSAs in November at 3.4 percent, which was up three-tenths of a percentage point from 3.1 percent in October. The Gary MSA had the state's highest MSA job- less rate in November at 5.8 percent, which was up three-tenths of a percent- age point from 5.5 percent in October. In Novem- ber 2014, the Evansville MSA's jobless rate was 5.1 percent. According to data pro- vided by the Indiana De- partment of Workforce De- velopment, the Evansville MSA – which includes Gib- son, Posey, Vanderburgh and Warrick counties – had a total of 161,700 jobs in November, an increase of 2,500 jobs from Novem- ber 2014. In No- vember 2014, the state's jobless rate was 5.9 percent. Indiana's labor force al- so maintained the recent trend, gaining more than 7,000 in November. Indi- ana has now added nearly 100,000 individuals to the labor force since January 2013, which leads the Mid- west. The gap between Indi- ana's labor force participa- tion rate and the national average further improved in November – 63.7 percent versus 62.5 percent. Indi- ana's labor force participa- tion rate has now exceeded the national rate for 19 con- secutive months. "Unemployment in the Hoosier State continues to be at its lowest levels in more than a decade," said Steven J. Braun, Commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. "Meanwhile, Indiana con- tinues to lead the Midwest in labor force growth by a significant amount." Braun also noted that weekly claims for unem- ployment insurance in In- diana for 2015 are at their lowest levels since 1997.
