Stam Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin Last year, for the first time, many peo- ple discovered a hollow core in the Amer- ican soul. It was a year of shame and sad- ness for all God fearing people. We dis- covered the weakness of our will and de- ficiency of our conscience. It was a year when right and wrong were blended to- gether and everything looked gray. We forgot about the obligations we owe to one another. Because right was unpleasant for the moment America looked away from truth. Our government and the Supreme Court betrayed our values. As our society stumbles along in its spiritual decline our only hope is God. The popular enticements of sex, violence, materialism and self-gratification will on- ly destroy the soul of our beloved Amer- ica. I am convinced that someday histo- ry will call 2015 a dark year in American history. In state after state, legislation has been passed that ignores God and the tra- ditional family values that made us great. I hope this year does not close with a decaying nation that has forgotten truth, righteous- ness and moral val- ues. I pray for the day when the values that motivated peo- ple to be honest and decent will be restored. I pray for a day when people will see that God is more powerful than congressional legislation, world treaties or presidential pronounce- ments. I pray for a day when the cultural- ly elite and liberal media will understand the importance of truth. I pray for a day when churches will return to the preach- ing of God's Word and love one another. I pray for a day when polls will not dic- tate the decision of our government or our churches. Share Article: A man's conduct, in Scripture, is called his "walk! " The Bible has much to say about how we walk, morally and spiritually. Many "walk after their own lusts" (II Peter 3:3) and "walk in darkness" ( John 12:35). Some even "walk in craftiness" (II Corin- thian 4:2) trying to lead others astray. In- deed, even Christian believers are some- times careless about their "walk" and so cause others to stumble. Every true child of God should be very careful about his walk, or conduct. In Eph. 2:8 -10 we read that while believers are not saved by good works, they are saved "un- to good works." God's grace is the root of our salvation, and good works are the fruit. Sincere believers in Christ are count- ed as one with Him, and it is expected of us that "as Christ was raised up from the dead" after having died for our sins, "even so we also should walk in newness of life" (Rom.ans 6:4). Christians are exhorted in the Bible to "walk worthy of the Lord, unto all pleas- ing" (Colossians 1:10), to "walk in the spir- it" that they might not "fulfill the lust of the flesh" (Galatians 5:16). They are exhorted to "walk worthy of [their] calling" (Ephe- sians 4:1), to "walk in the light" (I John 1:7) and to "walk as children of the light" (Ephe- sians 5:8). They are exhorted to "walk cir- cumspectly, not as fools, but as wise" (Eph. esians 5:15), to "walk honestly" (Romans 13:13), to "walk in love" (Ephesians 5:2) and to "walk by faith, not by sight" (II Cor- inthians 5:7). Much more is said about the believer's walk in the Bible, but never are we told that it is our "walk," or conduct, that makes us acceptable for salvation. Our failing, stum- bling ways could never earn salvation for us. On the contrary we are exhorted to walk pleasing to the Lord out of sheer grat- itude to Him.
