Congratulations, bride-to-be! You're newly engaged and ready to start planning your dream wedding, but where do you begin? Use this easy guide to keep your wedding on track and minimize the stress of your to-dos. 10–12 Months Before Whether you just got engaged or you're a year out from your wedding date, here are the first steps in planning your dream wedding: • Ease the stress and celebrate—have an engagement party! • Establish your budget and top priorities—ceremony and reception venues, guest list, wedding party, selecting vendors, dress shopping, and finding your photographer. 6–9 Months Before Your planning is in full swing and now's the time to get most of your important to-dos completed. Don't want to spend the money on a wedding planner throughout the entire process? "Consider hiring a day-of coordinator to help keep things running on time and smoothly, and to problem solve," says wedding specialist Jean Shonkwiler of Premier Bride, Milwaukee and SE Wisconsin. • Decide on vendors and make sure everything is ordered and booked. • Finalize your bridal look—order your dress, begin hair and makeup trials, and shop for bridesmaid/flower girl dresses. • Create your gift registry, arrange hotel rooms, and send save-the-dates to your guests. • Enjoy a day with your soon-to-be spouse and purchase your wedding bands. 3–5 Months Before The wedding is getting closer! It's time to confirm all of the bookings and reservations you've made such as rehearsal dinner location, party rentals and linens, and more. • Order wedding favors and finalize your complete guest list for both the rehearsal dinner and wedding. • Assist in selecting bridal party attire, confirm details with all of your vendors, and create a timeline for your ceremony and reception. • Concentrate on your ceremony and select readings, write or select your vows, and finalize your hair/makeup and dress look. 6–8 Weeks Before Less than two months to go—make sure everyone is on the same page so that everything goes smoothly on your big day. • Mail out invitations—consider numbering your RSVP cards to easily track responses and meal choices. • Research marriage license require- ments and name-change paperwork— apply early to give yourself plenty of time. • Finalize dress with a proper fitting and appropriate undergarments.
