February 3, 2012 Frosh girls remain undefeated Team achieves multiple goals for their season Payton Cumpton Staff Writer The Spartan Red Bluff Frosh girls' basketball team has remained undefeated with one of their biggest margins of win 61/18 against Oroville. It's no accident that the team is doing this well ac- cording to Head Coach John Wheeler. Their strategy is to review each game and go back over it and work on any weak spots. "We always have very up tempo practices, were always moving and have no time to mess around because we want to improve," said Abby Brown. "Every time we make a mistake we cor- rect it so we can get better and come out stronger". First, and most important the team is very cohesive, "We have a lot of chem- oal. istry in our team so we work well together," said Tessa Jones. Next, the team is aggres- sive; they have a good fast break and press. Last, the Nick Reinhardt/Bluffer Cara Hencratt (#32) penetrates the barrier and goes up for shot in Tuesday Freshmen game against Foothill coach has the respect of the team. "We push ourselves hard because our coach pushes us Frosh Boys reflect on the first half of a challenging season Team tries to work out the obstacles to gain more wins Rebecca Blanchard Staff Writer The boys freshman basketball season is going well according to Coach Sinclair. "The second game when I made 12 points in three minutes," said Justin Foux. Joseph Bosetti said his favorite game was the Corning game where he made four out of four and three pointers. "Probably the Oroville game, it was a close game," said Dale Danis. Coach Sinclair said his finest moment as a coach this season, was having won the Foothill tournament. The team said they did have some things they needed to improve on, however. According to the team, they have to work on the fact that there are too many turnovers, and there is a need for working together more as a team. "We need to work on not turning over the ball and continue to work on individual skills and team playing," said Coach Sinclair. "We need to play more as a team," said Foux. "We need to act more as a team and work together," said Bosetti. "We have a lot of turnovers, but it isn't anything practice won't fix," says Dale Danis. The freshman boys do have many redeeming strengths according to the players. This includes having good speed and size said Foux . "The team does work hard," says Coach Sinclair, "They've come together as a team very well." "I think we're good at rebounding the ball," said Joseph Bosetti. Throughout the games, each player has something that gets them through the game, makes them less nervous, or someone who supports them. "Knowing that there's always another game and we're going to come out and work hard," said Foux who also mentioned his biggest support is his family. Bosetti says that he just relaxes and doesn't worry about missing because it is part of the game. Just wanting to win and have good success keeps him going, and says his teammates are his biggest support. "When I'm not playing, I can depend on them", said Bosetti. The JV boys team is playing PV on Friday, February 3. hard," said Tessa Jones. This season the team has set several goals that they want to achieve by the end of the sea- son. During pre-season this year Red Bluff went into over- time against Foothill and lost by one. Their goal was to beat Claire Samay Staff Writer The Red Bluff JV boy's basketball team will be playing tonight away at Lassen. In past games the JV Spartans have succeeded in defeating the Grizzlies. "I feel a bit nervous because they will be playing hard at home so we will have to come out ready to play after the long drive there," said Sean Freeny The season so far is "looking good" and a goal of theirs is to "stay undefeated" in league. With an aggressive mind set, Greg Dufour, post, added, "I want to play my hardest every game and work on my post moves." According to Freeny, throughout the season they have continued to improve and come out strong on the court. "We need to work on talking on defense, and letting our teammates know we have their Foothill when they faced them this past Tuesday, which they achieved. They also want to make sure that they don't miss any easy shots like layups. They want to be more aggressive and score more points. This new team saw a difference at the high school level of compe- tition from their junior high days. "It's a lot more intense but the other teams are better competition", said Tessa Jones. With more physical and fast paced players the Spartan girls have risen to the chal- lenge. As for the future, an undefeated season would be great. " I would like to be undefeated this year because it shows how hard we work at practice and so every time we step out on the court we get even better," said Abby Brown. The Red Bluff Freshman girl's basketball team will be playing next Tuesday against Paradise. JV boys ready for Grizzly game help on defense," said Dufour. A goal of the team is to stay undefeated in league. The coaching staff is reportedly great and very motivational by pushing the boys to work their hardest. According to Austin Smith, assistant Coach Gleason, "helps fire up the team and is fun to have around." "In some areas we are exceeding our expectations and others we haven't met yet, so we just have to work to improve those areas," said Sean Freeny. JV Girls team turns pink Veronica Smith Staff Writer With a great way to keep the season going, JV girls have been undefeated in league from the start and they are trying to keep it up all the way through the Pink Out on February 7. "I'm really excited for the Pink Out! I love that the school is getting excited for the game and rally especially since it's for such a great cause," said Mayson Trujillo. Their practices have been going well and the girls have been working hard but they have been working even harder on their weak spots so their effort on the court will pay off according to Trujillo. "We're a team that loves to run and push the ball down the court, so turnovers and good passes are one of our weaknesses," Trujillo explains. Not only is the team excited for the Pink Out and the Pink Out rally, but they're excited to show Paradise what they all have improved on and show the crowd what they are made of according to Trujillo. Even though Red Bluff has played Paradise twice and they have beaten them both times the girls feel like this game will be even better. They get to try out their new techniques and prove that they are a strong team as one according to Trujillo. "We play really well together when we communicate," Hannah Woodall said. The Pink Out rally will be to get the girls Tuesday the 6th prepared for their game, and also to get the whole school excited and involved in the cause for breast cancer awareness and to support the Lady Spartans. The Junior Varsity girls' game will start at 5:30 after the freshman on Wednesday the 7th . The girls will be ready to show Paradise what they have been practicing for and they also hope to see the support of their school dressed in pink according to Woodall.
