February 3, 2012 Feature 5 Sound studio a 'good addition' Rebecca Blanchard Staff Writer When the new drama room was added, it was just a basic portable with a small empty office room in the corner. By using funding from the tech class and drama class budgets to buy the microphone, editing supplies, and the stage in the room, it was transformed into a quality sound booth. When asked what his favorite part of the room is, Mr. Palubeski, Drama teacher, said it is the alarm system for security. It is one of two sound rooms locally, the other being radio station. Four classes use the new drama room which contains a stage, green screen, and the sound booth. Since it has been added, 15 students have used the booth to record in, eight of which have had actual projects where they went through the editing process. "The program that is used was easy," said Kellie Rodriguez, sophomore,"When I recorded Orange Colored Sky with Brianna Penner, it took about an hour and a half after school. I'd sing a section, listen back, and then do the same with another section. We layered the voices," said Rodriguez, "It's a great opportunity to experience the studio and how it works." The two hours of vocal recording are the shorter part. "To do a proper sound engineering job, there are two hours of vocal recording and about three hours of manipulation on the computer," said Palubeski, "For every one minute of audio or video, it takes about two hours to edit." The tech class uses the green screen, which also has a morph suit that accompanies it, to shoot videos, along with the sound booth to learn about the editing process. Along with learning about editing and recording songs, the booth has also been used by the 1987 women's championship basketball team for a voiceover for a video done by the tech class. The sound booth, as well as S Photo courtesy of Joe Palubeski Kalynne Scholoen, senior, records a song in the sound studio. the drama room, has received a warm welcome from the students. Davis Palubeski, senior, spends at least three times a week in the sound booth. "It is definitely a good addition, it is good for kids to get this experience," said sophomore Brianna Penner. According to Palubeski, overall, the sound booth has been a great addition to the school when it comes to educational purposes. Dance Team to assist Girl Scouts in flash mob Local troop 70130 will learn the dance to participate in the Scouts' hundred year celebration Xarayna Sekscenski Staff Writer Red Bluff High's "talented" Dance Team is teaming up with the local Girl Scouts for a flash mob dance. Mrs. Pam Disibio is head leader, and Mrs. Jessica Gantenbein is coleader. Mrs. Disibio became a Scout leader because Mrs. Gantenbein and Ms. Pelanconi's daughters asked her to be their leader of Troop 70130 consisting of Brownies and Junior Girl Scouts. This month will mark their second year of leading 8 "wonderful" Girl Scout members. This year will be the 100 year anniversary and the national organization has many plans to celebrate, according to Disibio. In the near future, the dance team will participate in helping the Girl Scouts choreograph One recent graduate, Gerald Brittney Villa Staff Writer As students endure the fastest four years of their lives- high school, they realize that life after high school is quickly approaching. Some may wonder what exactly "life after high school" consists of. Three members of the Red Bluff High School Class of 2011 have some wisdom to impart upon current Red Bluff High School students now that they have experienced post- graduation life for themselves. Baker, is currently attending Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. He has a baseball scholarship and is majoring in Sports Medicine. Being nearly halfway across the country, Baker misses his friends and family a lot. "I try to keep in touch with them as much as I can, but being that I'm playing baseball, I've made so many friends that I will know now for the rest of my life. Home will always be there; I'll come back when it's time. For now, I'm out getting an education and enjoying life," said Baker. and learn a flash mob dance. The dance will take place the 9th that the Tehama County Girl Scouts do it at the clock tower on March 12th (the actual birth date). The idea was not Disibio's to do the flash mob dance, but she was happy to participate in it, according to Disibio. Disibio consulted Mrs. Lee Shilts, the dance team and dance teacher to ask Shilts Something that changed for Baker after moving out was the amount of independence he "Keep any good study habits you have, and if you don't have any, then get some." -Greg Wilson had. "Responsibility becomes a huge part of your life and you of June. Disibio is hoping if the dance team would be willing to learn a dance off of YouTube and then teach it to the Girl Scouts. Speaking with Mrs. Cindy Haase, to see if more students would be interested in doing the flash mob, and more information on that will come soon. "Our Troop is really excited to participate and based on how much they enjoyed the dance show last year, getting to go back stage and meet the girls, I become a lot more mature just a few months after moving out. You have to learn to be wise with how you spend your money," Baker said. Another recent graduate, Stevie Boone is attending American River Junior College in Sacramento, California and is doing her prerequisites for nursing. "The real world is harder than high school…people are no longer there to hold your hand and push you along. Also, time management is huge," said Boone. Life after high school was a mix both of things she expected and unexpected challenges, know they are looking forward to working with the dance team to learn it," said Disibio. There is not a set practice schedule yet, because cookie sales are about to begin, according to Disibio. "I guess it could count as community service for the dance team as our troop's personal theme this year is giving back and gratitude and that would set a great example," said Disibio. 2011 graduates share their college experiences according to Boone. A third RBHS class of 2011 graduate, Greg Wilson, is attending UC Davis in Davis, California and majoring in biological sciences. Wilson's post-high school experience showed him that college requires maturity and responsibility. "Everyone does what they want rather than being baby sat by teachers and parents," said Wilson. Wilson's biggest guideline for college survival is to keep any good study habits you have, and if you don't have any, then get some.
