The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, December 30, 2011 10 The concept is not unlike A/ Olsego Manor B/Warm Solutions 2 x 2.5 "Worst Cooks in America," which usually premieres this time of year (not to worry fans, a third season is in the works). In that series, Food Network chef Anne Burrell and another famous Food face -- last year, it was Robert Irvine -- each men- tored teams of cooks as they faced weekly chal- lenges to determine the top performer and big winner. The difference here is that the bragging rights will be earned by celebri- ties. Another difference is that these famous guys and gals can (presumably) cook -- or at the very least, they're all very passionate about food and its prepara- tion. Hosts Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri on "Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off" Clash of the titans: Food celebs square off in new cook-off series TV Media I t seems the Food Net- work has decided to start the new year with a little healthy competition. Without a break to recu- perate from any New Year revelry, the network starts off the year swinging with the debut of its newest competitive reality series, "Rachael vs. Guy Celebrity Cook-Off," premiering Sun- day, Jan. 1. Each Sunday this month, the six-episode series will pit two of the network's biggest stars -- Rachael Ray and Guy Fieri -- against each other in a cook-off; but, they'll be sweating it out behind-the-scenes, not in the kitchen itself. Eight celebrities have signed on to be part of ei- ther Team Rachael or Team Guy. They are: 21-year-old Miss USA Alyssa Campanel- la; comedic icon Cheech Marin; recording artist Aar- on Carter; ex-'N Sync singer Joey Fatone; actor Lou Dia- mond Phillips; Olympic swimmer Summer Sanders; hip-hop artist Coolio; and '80s singing superstar Tay- lor Dayne. Ray and Fieri will mentor and coach the participants, who will be split into the two teams in the premiere, as they compete in a series of challenges. These fast- paced but fun-filled compe- titions will have the celebri- ties racing to prepare dish- es for their diners, which in- cludes 150 guests at a food festival in the first episode. The diners for each episode will serve as judges by rat- ing each person's perfor- mance. The bottom two contenders will then have to stave off elimination in a blind tasting contest before one of them is sent home. For Fieri and Ray, it might only be a friendly competi- tion with only the afore- mentioned bragging rights at stake. But for the celebri- ties, they'll also be battling it out for the grand prize: a $50,000 donation to the charity of their choice. Don't give your ad the wrong kind of shelf life.
