Oneonta Daily Star, NY: Food Dec 24, 2011 to Dec 30, 2011 Food's new reality: Entrepreneurs basked in 2011 limelight TV Media the airwaves in 2011, with countless competitive series such as "Top Chef," "Food Net- work Star" and even "Cake Boss: The Next Great Baker." But looking back as the year comes to a close, it's the work- place-based reality shows that seem to have really caught on this year. It's not a new phenomenon by any means – execs have been mining the food industry for years (NBC's "The Restau- rant," and Fox's "Kitchen Nightmares" among many) to find the right blend of enter- tainment and drama to satisfy viewers' cravings. But 2011 was the year for smaller entre- preneurs to step into the na- tional reality limelight with shows such as TLC's "Tough Cookies," Food's "Have Cake, Will Travel" and WE tv's "State Island Cakes." And while it may be more entertainment- driven than instructional, there's enough to inspire some who might have an anniversa- ry or a kids' party to plan in 2012 (though be warned: if the kids load up on sugar, the host better have an energy-boost too to keep up with them). Meanwhile, "Bama Glama" marks a departure from Food Network's usual fare. Having joined its Friday night lineup on Dec. 16, "Bama Glama" fol- lows Alabama-based event de- signer Scot Wedgeworth as he Connect with more potential customers: call 800-721-1000 to advertise, in print and online.
