Having served as County Manager for Cleveland County since December 2004, Mr. Dear announced his retirement plans in early fall of this year. "David Dear has been at the center of improving infrastructure in Cleveland County and to pull diverse stakeholders into a posi- tive working relationship to rebuild the eco- nomic life of this community,." said Uptown Shelby Association's Executive Director Wade Nichols. "Each year we look to honor a person who has made real contributions to Shelby and Cleveland County, and we are pleased to honor Mr. Dear as he retires," David Dear has been employed by Cleveland County for 34 years, having previ- ously served in other managerial jobs. He is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, as well as Burns High School. Mr. Dear lives with his family in Shelby. The 2011 Shelby Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, December 18th at 3 p.m. on Lafayette Street. The parade has traditionally featured appearances by elected officials and beauty queens, as well as sporting teams of all ages, civic groups, marching bands, church groups, antique cars, Shriner's funny cars, and all sorts of glittering floats. The dead- line for entries is December 12th. MOORESBORO, NC Thursday, December 15-December 21, 2011 Cleveland County Community Foundation Recognizes Grantees Seven Cleveland County Nonprofit Agencies Receive Charitable Funding Representatives from local nonprofit organizations that recently received grants from the Cleveland County Community Foundation were honored today at a luncheon held at the Cleveland Country Club. In September, the Foundation distributed grants totaling $9,500 to seven nonprofit organizations: • $1,000 to Carolina Cross Connection to purchase sup- plies to make home repairs to residents in need. • $1,250 to Communities in Schools of Cleveland County, Inc. for the Back Pack Pals Program which provides food for the weekend to youth living in poverty. • $2,500 to Council on Aging of Cleveland County, Inc. to purchase food for the Meals on Wheels Program. • $1,250 to the Greater Cleveland County Baptist Association to purchase building supplies and equipment for the Senior Care ministry which reaches out to senior adults who need emergency home repairs and safety equipment. • $500 to Inter-Faith Alliance Corporation for the Beacons Men's Shelter. • $1,500 to Kings Mountain Crisis Ministry to purchase food for pantry which services rural low income families. • $1,500 to Washington Outreach Ministry, Inc. to pur- chase food for food pantry. From its first contribution to create a community endowment, the Cleveland County Community Foundation has grown into a philanthropic organization man- aging 27 funds with total charitable assets of $1.96 million as of September 30, 2011.
