The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, September 23, 2011 10 A/ Olsego Manor B/Warm Solutions 2 x 2.5 guides them through food preparation for a themed meal. It's more of an overall cooking lesson than a simple recipe walkthrough, as La- gasse converses with each guest and offers tips to solve any cooking quandary. The fa- miliar format is a good fit for the energetic host, and the collaboration with Hallmark has been eagerly anticipated since Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia acquired La- gasse's media assets back in 2008. Emeril Lagasse joins Hallmark's daytime line-up with "Emeril's Table" Big names get thrown into the daytime TV mix TV Media T wo legendary chefs are about to spice up this fall's daytime TV land- scape. On Monday, Sept. 26, ce- lebrity chefs Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse return to the media that made them household names. And while their respective series both bring food back into the day- time limelight, the similarities pretty much end there. Lagasse's newest half-hour series, "Emeril's Table," makes its debut on Hallmark Channel just before the sec- ond season premiere of "Martha Bakes." Each day, the king of Creole-style cui- sine plays host to different guests – from newlyweds cooking for two to time- strapped parents – and Meanwhile, over at ABC, the Batali-helmed "The Chew" promises to be a food- centered version of "The View." The daily one-hour talk show features a rotating cast of hosts including Batali, Car- la Hall ("Top Chef"), Michael Symon ("Iron Chef America"), Clinton Kelly ("What Not to Wear") and nutrition expert Daphne Oz. The segments dish on anything food-related from every perspective, all while celebrating its central role in our lives. From prepa- ration to nutrition and enter- taining tips, the hosts try to have it all covered. But "The Chew" may have some tough shoes (or Crocs, in Batali's case) to fill right from the start. The series takes over the timeslot that was previously occupied by the beloved soap "All My Children," whose cancella- tion raised the ire of fans. It's all part of a daytime shake-up at ABC, with execs hoping to expand on their daytime viewership by bringing in less expensive lifestyle-oriented programming. While some skeptics may be unsure of how the hosts can smoothly meld their dif- ferent backgrounds, the proj- ect itself is in very capable hands. Producer Gordon El- liott made a name for himself back in the 1990s with his own self-titled series, so he's had experience with the for- mat. He's also won a daytime Emmy for his work as produc- er of "Paula Deen's Home Cooking," and has served as executive producer of the Food Network's "Down Home With the Neelys."
