By Andy Heuring Pike County Commis- sioners voted to advertise for bids to have a new EMS Building constructed dur- ing the Tuesday, September 2 meeting. EMS Director Chris Young asked the commis- sioners for permission to advertise a second time for bids. Young said DLZ, the engineering firm that de- signed the first building that went out for bids, is convert- ing the design from a steel frame building to a tradition- al stick built frame. Earlier this year, DLZ told the commissioners they ex- pected the bids for the building to come in at about $400,000. Instead the low- est bid came in at $ 699,000. They were all rejected by the commissioners. Young said he hoped they could get it done in time for the bids to be opened on Oc- tober 1. Young also said DLZ was not charging the county more for changing the de- sign. In other EMS business, Young informed the com- missioners an auditing firm hired by the county to re- view Medicaid reimburse- ments to the EMS was es- timating Pike County could receive up to $58,000. How- ever, he said the company would get about $ 9,000 of that, leaving Pike County with $49,000. He also said even though the reimburse- ments were for the year 2013, it would probably be 2016 before Pike County saw any of the money. In other business, Robbie Weitkamp asked the com- missioners to consider re- placing and/or repairing two culverts in the south part of the county. Highway Superintendent Roger Ham said he had been pricing several types of cul- verts for CR 1150 S., includ- ing a concrete culvert. Ham said water in the creek was "hot" or acidic causing the metal culvert to rust out quickly. Ham said he tried to find a plastic culvert, but couldn't find one in the size needed. They also said they would address a large pothole in CR 400 E., just south of CR 950 S. "We will try to fix it as soon as we can," said Com- missioner Jeff Nelson. The meeting was resched- uled to Tuesday night, Sep- tember 2 because the origi- nal meeting time would have been on Labor Day. The next meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Mon- day, September 15 in the courthouse.
