Ronnie Humphries grabbed the win with 7.45 and he had big bass of the day with a 3.30 largemouth. David O’Shields took second with 4.50 and settling in third was John Black and Roger McNeilly with 4.45. Nobody had more than three fish. This week it is back to Lake Norman and hopefully better catches. MOSS It’s still very tough on Moss Lake for the Thursday night crowd. Last week, Brian and Cody Hoyle picked up the win with 4.95. Chris Edwards and Donnie Beason were second with 3.82. J R Garland and Ronnie Beason had 3.33 and landed in third. Richard McAbee took fourth with 1.63 and that was all that was brought in. J R Garland and Ronnie Beason had big fish with that 3.33 largemouth. Club News The Bass Casters will fish their July event this weekend on Saturday night/Sunday morning. The event is on Lake Hickory and starts at midnight and weighs in at 9 am. The Cleveland County Bass Club will meet at the end of the month to decide their next events date. When I’m not hunting or fi shing, I meet a few friends for an early morning run. The challenge is not actually in the run, even though they can be diffi cult as well. But the real confrontation comes as I see various people on the trail. There are folks of all ages who have some sort of desire or reason for getting out very early to walk or run. Many of the older ones do it be- cause a doctor has prescribed them to walk a few times each week. So they do. But I don’t think they really understood what the doctor really meant. You see, the object of walking or run- ning is to strengthen the muscles, and the primary muscle the doctor wants them to build up through walking, is the heart. In order for the heart to be strengthened, one must cause it to beat faster. And when the heart beats faster, you sweat. Yes sweat. The key to catching bass that can also see you is staying a tremendous distance away from them. A normal distance would be 15 to 20 feet from these shallow-water fish. Also, it’s important to be quiet and keep a low profile. To catch cruising bass, I alternate four colors (green, pearl, sand and chartreuse) tube jigs teamed with a 1/16 oz. bullet weight, 1 aut hook and 8 lb. test line. A pair of quality polarized sunglasses is crucial for spotting the shallow bass. Catching a cruising bass is a real art. Once I get an idea of the direction the bass is traveling, I attempt to lead it by about 10 feet, while aiming to intersect its path with the lure at the right time. In deeper water, I lead the bass by a greater depth to give the lure more time to sink to the level of the fish. If I make a bad cast, I will engage the reel and snap the rod to get the bait away before it ever touches the water and then try again. If my Christian life is strengthened, there will be some moments that are spiritually taxing – moments that will bring about some spiritual sweat. The challenging question I am confronted with is this. Am I a man who is living my Christian life through a comfortable stroll?
