KOSA The Kosa retirees fished Lake Hickory last week, making a change of the normal, Wylie/Norman, by-weekly events and were handed a harsh welcome by the lake. Coleman Hoyle and Arnold Ledford got the win with 2.7. This was a single bass and was also big bass of the day. Tommy Wess and James Haynes had 2.4 and were sec- ond with Dean Champion and Fred Wright getting third with 2.0. This week, the retirees will fish Lake Norman and I would say most are very glad and look forward to better catches than last week. Also in regards to the Kosa retirees, my thoughts and prayers go out to Doug Sparrow, who suffered a heart attack a week or so back. Get well soon my friend. MOSS Only 14 boats fished last Thursday in the weekly bass tournament at Moss Lake. Blame it on the heat or the incoming storms, which were bad but got to the lake as they were end- ing up with the weigh-in. Johnny Guffey and Donnie Walker picked up the win with 12.75. Randy and Randall Wright got second with 10.15 and third went to Matt Arey and Mark Swink with 8.85. Big fish was a 3.16 and brought in by Jody Black and Justin Bell. Bass Casters The Bass Casters will fish Lake Wylie this Saturday night/Sunday morning. Starting at midnight til 9am and with the recent 90 plus days, I am very happy with those hours. This will be the June event and will wrap up the points, and while I do not have them in front of me, the lower half of the top ten are still very close. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. TITLE THE E-MAIL STORY OR PICTURE “FOR SHOPPER” OR I WILL ASSUME IT’S JUNK MAIL AND NOT OPEN IT. By Gary Miller By I’ve always heard that writing is more about perspiration than inspiration. It’s true. Even though it is very fulfi lling to write about the outdoors, it is also dif- fi cult at times to continue to fi nd worthy subjects and stories. Sometimes my mind soars with information faster than my fi ngers can type. Other times, those same fi ngers seem like they’re waiting impatiently for the next command. Dur- ing the times of inspiration, I can’t wait to get to the computer. During other times, I dread its call. Every writer loves the moments of inspiration. I’ve discovered over the years, there is a catalyst that induces inspiration. That catalyst is presence. Here’s what I mean. I fi nd when I’ve been too busy to be outside, the inspirational juices dry up. But when I am in the presence of the water or woods, those same juices began to fl ow. I can remember one year, being in a hotel in the middle of Indianapolis. My view from the fourth fl oor was of pave- ment and people. This weekly article had to be written, but after a week with- in those confi nes, my mind was empty for ideas. I still don’t remember what I wrote about, but I remember how bar- ren I felt and how I longed for a room where my bed was an oak fl at and my blanket was the trees that covered it. You can buy them in some restaurants and grocery stores but the fun is harvesting your own fresh frog legs. All you need in most states is a hunting or fishing license, a good strong flashlight, a rifle, pistol, or pellet gun, a long handled gig, or your bare hands. Don’t forget a bag or stringer too. Now, head for the nearest lake, river or pond when the sun goes down. When you find a frog, keep the flashlight shining directly in their eyes to keep them from moving until you shoot, gig, or grab it. Frogs can also be caught during the day time by dancing a jig or other small bait in front of them until they pounce on it. Set the hook and reel them in. Thursday, June 9-June 15, 2011 Outdoor Connection FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ The lack of pres- ence drained any creativity and in- spiration. Sometimes we all must work under the master of perspiration, but unless there are moments of inspiration we will eventually lay down the task. In our spiritual life it is the same as well. Our spiritual inspiration must also come from presence. It comes as we are in the presence of God’s people, in the presence of God’s word being preached, and in the presence of the very Spirit of God Himself. This hap- pens as we fi nd ourselves in the house of God. Has your passion for the Lord waned? Has your desire to follow him been re- placed by other things? Perhaps it’s because you have neglected the place from where your inspiration will come. King David looked up into the rafters of the tabernacle and was inspired to write: “How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! Even the sparrow has found a home, And the swallow a nest for herself, Where she may lay her young.” www outdoortruths.or www..outdoortruths.org  Tanner McAbee, killed this albino turkey in Cleveland County.
