"Dad started this tradi- tion with Jack Weller at the Boys & Girls Club four years ago. He wanted to help a youngster have the chance to participate in the Jack Schweppe Summer Day Camp." explained Tracy Stilwell, El- win's daughter. At last year's auction the donated framed print brought over $300 or the cost of hav- ing one child participate in the Jack Schweppe Summer Day Camp program. This year's print, titled Secret Places, is a close- up scene of a quite wooded stream on a sum- mer day with a deer coming to take a drink. The picture will be part of the annual Car Raffl e and Auction held Friday, June 17 starting at 6:30pm at Goforth Hall, Cleveland County Fairgrounds, Shelby. The Club had decided to donate funds raised from the fi rst Broad River European Clas- sic Car Show as part of Arts on Square in April to support a lo- cal charity. Entrants from across the Car- olinas participated in the show with more than 90 different makes and models of vintage sports cars. You could have seen a BMW, Porsche, MG, Austin Healy, Triumph, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Jaguar, Morris Minor, and the Owl's Eye Trophy winner a 1934 Rolls Royce owned by Richard and Lynn Coombs, Columbus, NC. The Club started two years ago and has grow to more than forty members. It meets the fi rst Thursday of the month at Owls Eye Winery, Met- calf Road, Shelby.
