Ed Cahill photo By Andy Heuring Three people were arrested on charges of drunken driv- ing over the last week in Pike County. A Stendal woman was ar- rested at about 3 a.m. Satur- day, when police say she turned south on Cherry and went into the oncoming lane. Pike County Deputy Sher- iff Buck Seger said he stopped the vehicle and it pulled into the American Legion parking lot. He found Vicki Brochin, 54, of 3586 E. CR 900 S., was driv- ing and while speaking to her Deputy Seger stated he noticed the odor of alcohol and slurred speech. Deputy Seger said when he asked Brochin how much she had to drink, she replied, "too much." He said she failed field sobri- ety tests and a portable breath test. She was taken to the Pike County Jail, where she tested 0.16 percent for blood alcohol content, according to Deputy Seger. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent. She was prelimi- narily charged with operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent. Thursday evening, a Peters- burg man was arrested south of Spurgeon on CR 1150 S., after he made a wide turn onto the road and drove down the center of the road, according to Indi- ana State Trooper John Davis. Davis said he stopped the truck and found the driver to be Nathan N. Hyneman, 34, of 2184 N. CR 325 W., Petersburg. Trooper Davis said Hyneman failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he tested 0.12 per- cent for blood alcohol content. He was preliminarily charged with operating a vehi- cle while intoxicated with a pri- or in the last five years, a class D felony. An Evansville man was ar- rested at about 10 p.m. Thurs- day by Indiana State Trooper John Davis on drunken driving charges after he was stopped for speeding. Robert T. McCutheon, 45, of 6015 Locust Dr., Evansville, was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intox- icated. Trooper Davis said he stopped McCutheon after see- ing him driving 85 mph on I-69 near the 52 mile marker. McCutheon failed field sobri- ety tests and was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he test- ed 0.10 percent for blood alco- hol content. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent. A Loogootee man escaped serious injury Thursday eve- ning when his car overturned, went off of I-69 into a wooded area and hit a tree. Jeremy Lemon, 40, of Loo- gootee, was driving north on I-69 near the 43.5 mile mark- er when he ran off the left side of the road into the me- dian, then over corrected, ac- cording to Pike County Dep- uty Sheriff Jeff Boger. Depu- ty Boger said Lemon was driv- ing a 2008 Pontiac and after he overcorrected, he swerved across both northbound lanes, went off the side of the road, going 295 feet before over- turning, and then going into a wooded area, hitting a tree at about 4:47 p.m. "If it hadn't been for a wit- ness seeing it, it might have been a while before we found it," said Boger.
