Winslow to flush hydrant through Friday Utilities Superintendent An- dy Smith said Winslow will continue to flush hydrants through Friday, June 27. He cautioned water customers to not wash light colored clothes on these days. Flushing hydrants can cause discolored water; how- ever, it is safe to drink. Blue Jeans Center will host Sunday dinner The Blue Jeans Communi- ty Center in Monroe City will host Sunday dinner, June 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include crazy meat- balls, ribs, potato salad, baked beans, cucumbers, slaw, bis- cuits and desserts. All proceeds benefit the center. Petersburg Senior Center activities Come and support the Pe- tersburg Senior Center on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the courthouse basement. Bingo is provided on the second and last Tues- day, and each Wednesday. Lunch, quilting and crafts are available. A fundraiser breakfast will be on July 2 with a nurse in at- tendance. Local photographer to show wildlife photos July 10 The Oakland City Columbia Township Public Library and the Friends of the Patoka Riv- er NWR will present "Photo- graphing Bobcats and Other Local Wildlife" Thursday, Ju- ly 10 at 6 p.m. in the library. Local photographer Steve Gifford will show some of his photographs from wildlife found at the Patoka National Wildlife Refuge. Along with other photos, he will offer tips on how to photograph wildlife. Winslow Beautification Committee work day The Winslow Beautification Committee will have a work day at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at The Gazebo. Volunteers in the area, churches, and organizations are needed to help get it in good condition. The work day will involve putting up a fence, doing landscaping, pulling weeds, painting the concrete and anything else that needs to be done. Top Shot Competition The Top Shot Competi- tion and family picnic for this year's Pike County 4-H Shoot- ing Sports' participants is scheduled for Saturday, June 21 at the Pike County Bird Hunters Club. It starts at 9 a.m. Trophies will be provided for the com- petition and yearly awards will be issued. There will be hot dogs, ham- burgers and drinks available. Seeking contestants for Little Miss Sweet Corn Gamma Omega Chapter of Tri Kappa is seeking contes- tants for the Oakland City Lit- tle Miss Sweet Corn Contest, August 1 at 7 p.m. in the Wood Memorial Cafetorium. Contestants must be the ag- es of five to seven at the time of the contest. A $40 sponsor fee is required. Contestants must perform a talent in addi- tion to a short interview ques- tion.
