By Gary Miller By The retirees fished Lake Wylie this past week, with Ned Blanton and Tony Black getting the win. The pair had a very good catch with 15.15 and they anchored that with a 4.80 largemouth that took big bass of the day. JR Garland was second with 11.40 and close behind in third was John Black and Roger McNeilly with 11.15. This week it is off to a new lake and new adventures, hopefully. Lake Hickory will host the retirees from 7am til 1pm. Ticona The Ticona bassin’ bunch have fished two since we last heard from them. The first was on Lake Hickory where Danny and Tommy Edwards got the win with 14.9. Jim and Chris Carrol were a close second with 14.4 while third went to Allen and Gary Gamble with 11.8. Fourth went to Larry Denton and Randy “Wildman” Wright with 11.7. The team of Danny and Tommy Edwards took big bass as well with a 4.10 largemouth. Lake Wylie was the second event and saw Tim Chapman and Mark Leach take the win with 16.6. They also had big bass of the day with a 4.4 largemouth. Larry and Gary Gamble had 15.9 and land- ed in second while Larry Denton and Randy Wright took third with 11.10. Jody and Tony Black took fourth with 10.14. The next event is on Lake Wylie, June 4 from 5am til 1pm. Moss Twenty-one boats blasted off at the weekly Thursday night bass tournament on Moss Lake last week. Chris Carrol and Larry Denton got the win with 10.95. Johnny Guffy and Alan Pickleshimer had 9.95 and were second and also had big bass with a 3.30 large- mouth. Third with 8.45 was Nate Baggley and Steve Scism, close behind was Nathan White and Scott Yarbro with 8.35. Rounding out the top five was Brian and Cody Hoyle with 8.25. Some say the only sure things are death and tax- es. I would beg differ, but that is for an- other time. Hunters and fi shermen love sure things. It seems there is always one place that a fi sherman can pick up at least one fi sh during his tournament run. I can remember one time that a friend had told me where to deer hunt. He ac- tually directed me to his tree stand. His guarantee was that I would get a shot at a deer. He even told me the time when they would come through. I followed his exact directions and for 2 days I never saw the fi rst deer. That second evening I told him that I had not seen any deer and that I was moving to another place. He couldn’t believe my confession but then added, “If the deer had not been there for two days, they would for sure be there the next day.” Well, he talked me into going back and sure enough, I arrowed a nice doe on the third day. His sure thing was sure, but just delayed. The big news today is the calculation of our world coming to an end. It was supposed to have happened on May 21st as predicted by an older gentle- men, engineer, and Christian radio broadcaster, Harold Camping. Adult ultra-light spincasting combos are a good durable choice. They are easy for kids to hold and are relatively tangle- free. Best of all, they make even a small perch feel like a whopper to a kid. Go with a combo with a soft tip which will mean easier casting. Make sure the reel handles 4-pound test line well and has a smooth drag. Start a kid right with decent, functional tackle. Anything less performs poorly and invites discouragement. And even though he has revised his predictions, my prediction is that he will be wrong again. There are many reasons why, but again I will also save that discussion for another day as well. While I could jump on the bandwag- on with everyone else in explaining ei- ther the folly of or the Biblical mandate against setting an end of the world date, instead, I fi nd myself being struck with an odd question. What message is so sure to me and so needed to be heard by everyone else, that I am willing to risk everything I have to get that mes- sage out? My money. My reputation. My integrity. My home. My relationships. What truth is so paramount in my life that I am willing to sell all I have in order that I might gain, as the Bible says, that pearl of great price? Mr. Camping predicted an end to the world and even gave us the hour it would happen. As a result nobody believed it would happen in that hour. “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44) www outdoortruths.or www..outdoortruths.org MAYSE MFG.
