As families come to- gether to honor the nation’s veterans, the long weekend also happens to be one of the busiest barbecue weekends. So who better to help fire up the season than the Food Network’s very own grilling expert, Bobby Flay. On Mon- day, May 30, Food offers up a Memorial Day marathon fea- turing the best barbecue- themed episodes of “Throw- F or many, Memorial Day weekend is considered the unofficial start of In the premiere episode, the focus is on the Pacific Northwest as Flay prepares a barbecue menu that is tailor- made to that region’s special- ties, including hot smoked salmon with a salad of ap- ples, dried cherries, hazelnuts and apple cider vinaigrette. Add to it steamed Dungeness crabs and cedar plank- cooked burgers, and that’s a menu fit for any gathering this summer. It’s already been a pretty busy year for Flay. In addition to his regular outings in “Bobby Flay’s Throwdown,” “Iron Chef America” and countless other Food specials, he recently took center stage in NBC’s reality competition series “America’s Next Great Restaurant.” He’s also been busy with another series, “Brunch @ Bobby’s,” on Food’s sister station, the Cooking Channel. Flay’s passion clearly lies with grilling and most of the success he’s built up over the years comes from it. He honed his techniques in several res- taurants before becoming a partner in New York’s Mesa Grill in 1991. From there, he opened a second Mesa Grill in Vegas and a third one in the Bahamas, plus a Bobby Flay Steak restaurant in Atlantic City.
