The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, April 15, 2011 10 A/ Olsego Manor B/Warm Solutions 2 x 2.5 Eggs-tra edition: Martha celebrates Easter in one- hour special includes 300 different spe- cies. While there, Stewart also takes the time to set the bar impossibly high for the Easter Bunny and parents alike with one of her favorite Easter traditions: an egg hunt. It will feature Stew- art’s expertly decorated eggs, whether dyed, paint- ed, embossed, glittered, golden, stickered or masked. It’s an art form she has be- come known for over the years, as evidenced as well by the recent launch of her “Egg Dyeing 101” iPhone application. Stewart will also guide viewers through other egg- inspired craft and gift ideas that are perfect for celebrat- ing Easter or the spring. You can be sure there’ll be some meal and recipe ideas for the occasion, too, as Stewart partakes in an Easter brunch buffet at a local church. So why the focus on Martha Stewart will host her own Easter special, “Martha’s Eggcellent Easter” TV Media for that matter. So it seems fitting that America’s top home style expert and the greeting card giant should team up to celebrate Easter. The one-hour original spe- cial “Martha’s Eggcellent Easter” premieres this Sun- day, April 17, on Hallmark. M artha Stewart knows holidays. Hallmark does too, Throughout the program, Stewart draws inspiration from one of the holiday’s prominent symbols -- the egg -- for everything from decorations and craft ideas to activities and recipes. As part of the springtime celebration, Stewart visits the New York Botanical Gar- den’s Enid A. Haupt conser- vatory. The segment there offers winter-weary garden- ers a glimpse at its impres- sive orchid collection, which eggs? Why not chocolate or candy? Eggs -- whether chocolate-filled or in natural form -- have long been syn- onymous with Easter. But they’re important symbols in other celebrations too – in- cluding the Jewish Passover Seder that will be celebrated by many this week. It’s often a symbol of new life and re- newal, thus a perfect repre- sentation of spring. For Stewart, eggs are also an important ingredient in so many of her recipes. She’s a proponent of using the freshest ingredients avail- able and has been keeping chickens of her own for more than 30 years. In fact, on a recent appearance on “The Late, Late Show With Craig Ferguson,” Stewart brought her own eggs from her Connecticut farm out to the Los Angeles set for a cooking segment. But even if you’re not a big fan of seeing nature’s perfect food on your plate, it’s hard to resist some of Stewart’s creative egg-deco- rating techniques. And of course her recipes can al- ways help you use up the yolks and whites you’ve just emptied so that you could decorate the shell.
