To suggest a restaurant or recipe, e-mail editor@otownscene.com New Moon Delhi’s Quarter Moon Cafe becomes a market, lunch spot The Quarter Moon Cafe, which used to offer upscale dining, has transformed into a more casual daytime cafe and marketplace. Jonah Shaw, who has owned the Quarter Moon since 2001, said the Quarter Moon is still offering gourmet-level food, but in a different form. Currently, the cafe is of- fering a featured dinner each week, which is available in to-go or eat-in containers similar to those found in the prepared food section of grocery stores. The Quarter Moon dinners still incorporate the creativity and freshness the restaurant was known for, and the dinners that are not sold at the end of the three-day week (Quarter Moon is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday) are sealed and frozen to be available in the cooler of the marketplace. This week’s featured din- ner includes smoked brisket and carmelized cauliflower. “The idea is that you can come in and buy dinner and take it home,” Shaw said. The cafe is still in the same space, but dif- ferent aspects have been transformed. “On a physical level, we’ve taken the wait station and turned it into a little market,” Shaw said. “The dining room has pretty much stayed the same except we’ve re- painted and added new artwork.” Products made in-house for sale include ice creams and sorbets, cured meats, cheeses and soups. The cafe carries about 30 different beers from microbreweries that can be bought in single bottles or mix-and- match six-packs. The cafe still has a full bar, also, for customers to “get their drink on,” according to Shaw. 12 O-Town Scene April 14, 2011 Customers can also order food to eat in at the cafe’s tables. The cafe has a deli counter type set-up, and a worker will have soups and a griddle behind the bar to grill a selection of sausages and serve the home- made soups or local cheese and meats. Shaw is expanding beyond the cafe, too. The frozen soups are being sold at a health food store in Cooperstown. He also was the consultant for Brewery Ommegang’s café, which opened earlier this year. Shaw has developed a couple of ice creams and sorbets using Ommegang beers, including a Three Philosopher’s ice cream. The plan is to do special dinners through- out the summer and start offering more dinner choices. Shaw said he would like to eventually turn the space attached to the back of Quarter Moon — Sol Bar, which is closing at the end of the month — into a cured meat production room. Pianist Drew De Four will play classics and standards for a dinner service April 29, and there will be a “last waltz” party at Sol Bar on April 30, Shaw said. But, right now he is content to focus on the daytime cafe. “I am trying to get away from nighttime service.
