Andrews Polkville Fire Department held their annual fund raiser at the Union Elementary School cafeteria, Sunday, March 6th. The rain didn’t dampen the turnout for one of the best dinners served in Cleveland County, as well over 1500 dinners were served. The event started forty-eight years ago when a member of the department and a turkey farmer suggested hosting a dinner as a fund raiser. Funds from the feast will help with the completion of the new fi ve bay fi rehouse currently being built in the town. The new fi rehouse will also feature sleeping quarters, a community/training room and offi ces. Also incorporated into the design will be a facial touch of the old Polkville High School building. Pictured above Polkville Fire Chief, Jerry Silver makes sure that Alexis, Marla and Mark Patterson were enjoying their meal. Mark is the head of The Patterson Design Group and is the architect of the new facility. The Polkville Volunteer Fire De- partment currently has thirty-seven volunteer fi remen. – M. A. Polkville Volunteer Fire Department Holds 48th Annual Turkey Dinner Polkville Volunteer Fire Department Holds 48th Annual urkey Dinner magnifi cent day for Burns High School. Three Red Cross Bloodmobiles arrived at the school with a goal of 90 units of blood hoped to be donated. To the amazement of all involved there was a total of 122 units collected, which in- cluded 110 fi rst time donors. Because each unit of blood collected is capable of saving three lives, Burns’ response could possibly affect 366 lives. The an- nual blood drive is coordinated by the health education teachers at Burns, Phyllis Elmore and Nicole Waters. For their spectacular effort, BHS qualifi es as a “Recovery 2011 Sponsor” and will bring national recognition to the school. The school will be listed in a full page ad in USA TODAY - most likely next week. With such a critical blood shortage at the present time, the students and staff at Burns need to be congratulated for their caring response. You can help too by logging on to www.redcrossblood. org to fi nd out where you can give. Re- member, March is Red Cross month, please give today! –M. A.
